I am going to be using the Pathfinder rules for the standard character races, but I am also in the process of creating a few races of my own using the Race Creation Cookbook by Louis Porter, Jr Design. I was wondering what you guys (those of you familiar with this product) think would be a good point cap for making a new race based on the power level of the Pathfinder races.
EDIT: Does 50 sound good?

Sorry I jusy saw the post. Don't worry, we WILL be doing a Pathfinder version of the Race Creation Cookbook, Prestige Class Cookbook and most likely a Spell Creation Cookbook also. So don't worry, LPJ Design has you covered on making balanced races for your game.

Soooo how soon can we expect any of these? I'm really looking forward to the Race book.

Well the writer just gave me his deadline, so I expect you will see it sometim in late Oct / early Nov. We are actually building this one from the ground up so it will exclusively work with the PRPG and not just a simple converion.

I happen to have this book, but honestly i never used it.
No offense, that's just not the kind of supplement i actually need.
The main reason that it was created it was for people who are actively making new races, like RPG publishers or fans creating for their own settings. The Race Creation Cookbook is not for everyone but if you are looking at creating races for home or published works you can't do any better than the Race Creation Cookbook.

That's awesome news. Pathfinder will be the foundation for much of what I do for the next couple of years so it'll be nice to have a guide like this that is ment for Pathfinder from the word go.
My birthday is Nov. 19th btw...
Just sayin... ;-)

I think PC race creation is very simple. There are many good ones for comparison to. If you're working up something with a few Hit Dice, then a good substitute (again if it's going to be a PC race) is designing racial levels. That lets you benchmark against various classes.
For typical fantasy races I would say "Yes". But if you are making more exotic races (see the Races of NeoExodus for what I mean in exotic) you might need a lttle bit more. I mean psionic disease carrying rat-men or crytalline hulking arcane casters or even dark lighting firing shadow cat men are not what I would consider common. But a little extra help for those who need it is not a bad thing.

These all sound like great resources for DMs who build their own campaigns. If you could provide a link to the source of these books, and any others that help DMs in this regard, I would greatly appreciate it.
And thanks from all of us DM campaign builders, generic resources for our campaigns are typically hard to find.

You can find the full line of LPJ Design products right here at the Paizo webstore or you can see the original Race Creation Cookbook right here in all of its 3.5 OGL glory. Thanks for the support!

I would like a pathfinder converted-race creation cookbook, but I'm not that big of a fan of paying for two very similar books. Would you consider releasing something of an enhancement for the people that already purchased the PDF?
You mean like if you purcahsed the 1st Race Creation Cookbook, you can get this one for 50% Off the price with a special coupon? Yes, we are planning to do just that. RPGNow.com customers will get a email with the coupon coming directly to them. Paizo.com store customers will need to send me via e-mail a copy of the original receipt when they purchased it. Plus, we plan to bundle both copies of the Race Creation Cookbooks together at a reduced price, like 30% to 40% off both when you purchase the bundle. If you want them we have you covered.
