Whoever this Mistress was, she had lots of gold at her disposal. She must also be an incredibly powerful opponent. With the High Mages going in individually, Usu wished he could follow them. Their magicks would likely be spectacular to study.
Resigned to going in the third wave, he went to gather all his goods from his room, urging the others to do the same. Who knows what they would face when they arrived at the site of battle.
His possessions checked for, he returned to the teleportation site in anticipation of leaving. He was curious which of the others would return, and which would slip away during the confusion.

As your group is sent to the castle where it is believed the 'Mistress' is, you come out on to a horrifying site. All around you lay the remains of broken magical items(wands, staffs, shredded scrolls, etc) and the remains of those who weilded them. The smell of fresh death and wasted magic clings to the air, made all the more ominous back the dark castle looming before you. You encounter nothing as you make your way to the gloomy castle, and you can see the drawbidge is down for any who wish to cross.
Stepping through the carnage, Usu kept an eye out for corpses of High Mages. If those wielders of powerful magic were also killed, then he was certainly not a match for whatever killed them.
Approaching the ominous castle and bridge, he glanced at his remaining companions. Violese had, perhaps wisely, disappeared. Apparently her skills at self-preservation were keen. Before he crossed the bridge, he said to everyone, "Now would likely be a good time to cast your extended protection spells. Who knows what we will encounter once we cross the threshold."
Usu waited for the others to finish their spells, if any.
Trymos stands near the front, his spear at the ready.
