You know, 30+ 1st level characters all gathered at random and placed on a seemingly inescapable island, forced to play The Game: fighting and killing each other for the amusement of wizards watching from Geb/Cheliax/EvilCountryOfYourChoice. Everyone has a magical device on them that will kill them if they try to remove it, escape from the island, or an entire day goes by without someone dying. The island is divided into even sections, some of which are magically announced as being "dead zones" every few hours, and anyone within them has five minutes to leave before their devices kill them(which prevents people from finding a hiding place and just staying there. The Game continues until only one person is left standing.
And maybe, just maybe, there might be a way to cheat the system and not have to play The Game. Some might band together and try to turn the tables on their captors.
I don't even like the Battle Royale series, but this strikes me of having some possibilities. High character turnover of course. Hell on good-aligned characters too...
Could it work as a low-investment PbP? Simple characters, one post per day, huge number of players which will get whittled down pretty quick?
Maybe 0-level NPC characters...

I'm in, as long as it is not like that Steve Austin movie where you go in to enjoy the bloodsport and it turns into a "you're a monster to enjoy this kind of thing." I was so pissed. But 30 characters enter, only one leaves is fine with me. Why only level 1, tho? so battles are quicker?
I, too, prefer 4E over any of the others.

Whoa, whoa! Sorry, this is really to start up a BR-style PbP. This was really more about seeing if it had ever been attempted(and really, throwing the idea out there in case someone was brave/crazy enough to give it a shot).
The more I think about it, the more it seems like you would need multiple GMs to serve as referees, at least in the early stages when there are still a ton of players to deal with. Any traps would need to be simple in design, possibly requiring a PC to prep it or purposefully set it off in order to take out another PC(or several at once).
To be honest, the concept runs a bit too grimdark for my tastes(I couldn't stomach the BR manga long enough to make it halfway through, and I read Berserk!), but if someone else can run with the idea, gravy!

OK I'll run it For starters it cant be 4th edition i don't have the rules i will hold a vote for Beta or 3.5
Mikaze you be an assistant GM?
Everyone will be first level. 10 point buy, and will have only cloths and one weapon Longsword/Longbow/Quarterstaff/dagger/shortsword/club. you have all been Captured by an evil group of wizards. and sent to this island the wizards will have various methods to kill you all for there own amusement. you can try to leave the island if you want to swim hundreds of miles in icy sea.
I am looking for 30 players, an assistant gm or 2 might help so you can help me check over the players characters, All core races and classes.
When you post if your interested I would like the following I am looking for 30 players, an assistant gm or 2 might help so you can help me check over the players characters, All core races and classes.

This has piqued my interest. Wasn't really sure how to go about setting it up though. DMs could take on different sections of the island.
An abandoned village which is fenced in by some kind of magical wall of thorns or something. An underground area with no obvious escape points. Jungle with dinosaurs stalking the PCs. A sandy beach riddled with skeletons (rise up out of the sand when you come near them).
Guess that's shifting away from the battle royale theme. Could however have the winner of each area manage to escape their "prison", then in a final showdown atop the wicker ziggurat at the center of the island.

I've played in Arena games via PbP before--folks on the Myth Weavers site have been running them for several years. Ithamar's Arena of Ascension is a current example. You might look to it for some guidelines, rules, etc. as I've found that without some pretty thought-out structure in place the game can devolve to rules-lawyer nightmare land...
