Posting early, heading to bed and don't know when I'm gonna be around

"Ok my first trick didn't work how about this" Bringing his blades together he forms an orb of pulsating energy. As he launches the orb at the nearest brain it takes it's final shape a slow, marble sized pot. It floats slowly to it's target.

Chaos Bolt on G3, 1d20+13=29 vs. Will; Damage 1d10+13 psychic damage; Rolled a 16 so that means... Secondary attack on G2, 1d20+13=16 vs. Will; Damage 1d6=5 psychic damage (ya like that hit... pfft).

And since I rolled a an even number for my first attack I get a +1 to my AC this round. Puts me at AC 25. Also since I forgot before the encounter started, wild soul 1d10=4 (force), I gain resist force 10 until the end of my next
extended rest. While I have resistance to that damage type, my arcane powers ignore any target’s resistance to that damage type up to the value of your resistance.

Actions noted, thanks Laz! Sorcerers look like alot of fun, but also alot of confusion cross-referencing and tallying and so forth. I should try one someday!

Now, someone buy that dragonborn a Healing Surge STAT!!

On Madda's turn.

Switching back to human form and shifting out of the aura spawned by the Grell Philospher, Madda does her darndest to shake off the psychic attack...

Save v daze (1d20=1)

... and fails utterly.

This could be a rather short career. She's moving to U9. The shift is part of the minor action to transform back to human form.

Male Deva Shaman 2

Galad strides forward through the crowd and raises his holy symbol at Sundered. "In the name of Ioun, be healed." Meanwhile the spirit moves to the grell and lashes at it with a longsword seemingly made of mist.

Moving myself to AA14 and my spirit to U14[move), casting Healing Word on Sundered(minor), and using Stalker's Strike(Fort, spirit counts as flanking): 1d20+11=15, 1d10+9=18, Sundered heals 10 extra hp

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil draws his sword and looks at the mess going on across the square. They're going to have to hold their own for a little while longer. He waves his sword and a flash of lightning extends from the sword, wrapping around the creature to pull it closer.

Draw sword; Lightning Lure 30 vs. Fort, 13 lightning damage and pull Grell 4 to Z25 ; Aegis of Shielding on Grell 4.

Madda:Clarification: Are you shifting out of the aura, then moving back in (U9 is still inside the zone) or were you meaning to shift out to U8 and remain outside?

And yes, this isn't going quite how I had anticipated. At least so far, anyways!

U8 and remain outside. She's aiming to cast something a bit more drastic next turn and ideally wants to be out of tentacle reach. Failed daze save is not the way to succeed dog-girl...

Thanks! That's what I had guessed, but wanted to be certain.

Update & new round later tonight, folks.

Curtain of Steel as an Immediate Reaction to G2's Tentacle Grab.

Curtain of Steel Attack vs. G2 1d20+19=26, Damage 3d10+10=28

By my count with the healing word, SH is not 59 and no longer bloodied.

Sundered Heart wrote:

Curtain of Steel Attack vs. G2 1d20+19=26, Damage 3d10+10=28

By my count with the healing word, SH is not 59 and no longer bloodied.

Curtain of Steel hits, damage added to G2's tally. At the beginning of his turn in Round 3, SH will be Grabbed, Dazed and Stunned, but no longer Bloodied, at 59/101 HP (62/101 HP after his Regeneration tallies). As far as I can determine, the stun means he cannot take any actions other than rolling his saves at the end of his turn. (unless granted an interrupt save prior to the beginning of his turn, which did not happen)

That sound right to everyone?

Sound right. Was about to say that. But the first time SH's hp reaches 0 or below then he can initiate the added effect of Silver Phoenix Rage to spend a healing surge.

Galad's prayer to Ioun, potent in this holy place, fortifies Sundered Heart, even as the barbarian's blood-pumping fury grants him renewed vigor.

+28HP from Surge, +10 from Galad, +3 from Regen. SH gains 41 HP, now 62/101 HP.

Galad's ancestral remnant moves silently to the attack, but cannot bring the tenebrous longsword to bear effectively amongst the snapping tentacles.

Stalker's Strike misses. Spirit does NOT enable Combat advantage on a miss.

Madda emerges from the roiling energy field, stumbling as she reverts clumsily to human form and stature. Eyes still unfocused, she blinks, trying to regain her typical clarity of thought.

Closer to the jutting Mindspire, a twisting, sizzling bolt of lightning cracks from the pale Deva's poised blade, ensnaring and yanking his foe close enough to engage. The Deva murmurs words of arcane provenance, buffering himself against the attacks that are surely to come, as the grell writhes under the crackling energy and prepares to retaliate.

Grell is wounded and marked (indicated by blue border).

The square is now nearly empty, save for the alien predators, the heroes that stand against them, and the few slowest of the fleeing stragglers. With a ragged peal of thunder the clouds let loose, hurling raindrops that darken the cobblestones, sluicing away the blood before it can stain.

Karnn's sorcerous globe strikes the closest grell square, exploding in a wave of psychic power. The grell screeches, clacking its powerful beak in something akin to pain. The psychic backlash dissipates harmlessy, as the young sorcerer mentally reinforces his defenses.

Hit on Grell 3, not yet bloodied, though it is significantly wounded. Secondary attack missed.

Sundered Heart spasms weakly in the grasp of many tentacles, attempting to marshal reserves of strength enough to clear his head and make his muscles again obey his commands.

Sundered Heart, give me two more saves!

UPDATED MAP

3.19: Sundered Heart: 62/101 HP, Grabbed (Move action to attempt escape), Dazed (save ends) & Stunned (save ends)

DM

Spoiler:

Had a long day today and expect more of the same tomorrow so I hope you don't mind me posting early again and spoilering the everything.

"Didn't like that did ya, Lumpy! Well have some more!"

Karrn moves about the battle again, before forming another puny sized orb of energy

"Karrn Cannonball!"

Move to AA 16; Chaos bolt on G3, 1d20+13=30 vs. Will, no secondary attack (rolled odd); Damage 1d10+13=14 psychic damage, fumbled the damage :(

Since I rolled a and odd number for the attack I can roll a saving throw, good incase one of these grells decides to mess with me while I'm off; Save 1d20=2... Ok maybe not so good

Two Saves! 1d20=16, 1d20=12

Nice grells, do not molest SH while he's stunned. he he he

Please note: I did not apply any interrupts that those of you attacked may have had available. Those of you who have such things, please post in the discussion thread with circumstances under which you'd like me to use them for you, if you wish.

As a side note, this post was done in a very fragmentary manner - if I messed something up, feel free to point it out! :)

Still dangling amidst the clutching tentacles, Sundered Heart wills his muscles to function, and the surge of blood clears the cobwebs from his mind as well. Made both saves, currently only grabbed (move action to attempt an escape)

In front of the town hall, Setil stands firm against the lightning-scarred grell, untouched amidst a flurry of raking tentacles. The horrid creature shrieks its fury, floating to the deva's flank and wrapping him in a sudden barrage of coils. Setil twists madly, avoiding the deadly bite which follows.

Tentacle Rake misses, shift to AA24, Action Point to use Tentacle Grab(standard) 1d20+14=22 vs Fort, for 2d8+5=11 damage. Setil is now grabbed enabling a Venomous Bite (minor) which misses. He'll need a move action to attempt an escape.

A frenzied burst of motion heaving him out of the path of the snapping beak, Sundered Heart feels the grell's leathery appendages tighten around him. As it squeezes he can feel barbs digging deeper in his flesh.

Sustain (Minor) the tentacle grab, Venomous Bite(minor) misses, Tentacle Grab (standard) squeezes for 9 damage.

The remaining Horrid Grell seems oblivious to the ancestral spirit to its rear, and moves singlemindedly towards the woozy Madda. The tentacles coil around her easily and the filthy beak snaps shut on flesh and bone, the venom seizing her muscles in its alien grip.

Shift to V12, then move to V9. Action Point to use Tentacle Grab (standard) 1d20+16=34 vs Fort, 2d8+5=10 damage. Madda is also grabbed.Venomous Bite (minor) 1d20+16=29 vs AC, 1d8+5=10 damage and Madda is also stunned (save ends)

With a quivering cackle, the Philosopher floats closer to the fray, reaching again into the ether and drawing forth the vortex energies of a psychic storm upon the young sorcerer - who shrugs it off nonchalantly - and his god-serving lackey, who succumbs to the alien energies. "

Psychic Storm recharges! 1d6=6 Casting it centered on AA13 vs Karnn: misses, vs Galad: 1d20+14=28 vs Will, 3d8+3=9 psychic damage, and is dazed (save ends).

UPDATED MAP

3.14: Galad 67/76 HP, Dazed (save ends)
3.13: Madda: 50/88 HP, Grabbed (move action to escape), Stunned (save ends)

4.16: Grell Philosopher

Grabby grabby grabby!

Male Deva Shaman 2

I made an attack roll for Spirit's Fangs[/url, then I realized it shifted away.

His head ringing, Galad stumbles forward.

I move to X14, spirit to U10. Saving Throw: I'm really not dazed.

female Human Druid 11 (Adroit Explorer 1)

Can do nothing but roll saves. Two needed, right? One for the stun and one for the daze...

With a tiny blurry bit of her mind, Madda really regrets coming down to the temple today.

But at least most of the people will get away...

Save v Stun (1d20=12)
Save v Daze (1d20=7)

Still dazed. Yippee. She's got no interrupts of any kind.

Galad The Redeemed wrote:

Nice save! You're remaining in the storm zone, Galad? I ask because it seems to me that if you do not leave it, you'd be subject to the Daze effect again next round. Open, of course, to arguments otherwise.

Just FYI, being Grabbed only limits one's mobility, it appears. It is still possible to attack or use powers that do not require you to move, though you may be subject to AoO, depending on the power.

No, just keep typing the wrong coordinates. Edited in the right ones.

Male Deva Swordmage

As the tentacles wrap around him, Setil's blade becomes black ice and cuts across the fleshy beast.
Immediate interrupt: Frost Backlash 29 vs. Reflex; 16 cold damage or 8 cold damage on a miss.

Setil struggles desperately against the tentacles.
Athletics 18 vs. Fortitude. Plus Memory of a thousand lifetimes +3 = 21.

I doubt that succeeds, but just in case:

Spoiler:
If freed, Setil would spend an action point to double move to R16.

Otherwise...
Setil softly says a prayer to Pelor and he swings his sword defensively.
Priest's shield 22 vs. AC; 7 damage and +1 to my AC on a hit.

Galad clears his head while Madda manages to throw off the grell's paralytic poison, but still can't focus her mind properly.

Setil's interrupt damage applied. Grell 4: -29hp

Setil calls upon the ancient store of memories that only a Deva can boast and twists free of the writhing coils! He steps out of immediate danger, then races across the field of battle to engage the lightning-crowned Philosopher.

Memories got you out! Shift (part of the escape action), then double move to get within melee.

Karnn, with the bravado of youth, slides to his right, bombarding his chosen foe with yet another sorcerous explosion.

Grell 3: -89hp. Still not bloodied, but not looking so fresh anymore.

The statue of Estered stands benevolent and calm, as it has for years, gazing down upon the chaos.

4.13: Setil: 80/91 HP
4.01: Peasants: Mostly gone!
---------------------
5.27: Karnn: Resist Force 10

Note that in addition to an actual escape attempt, nearly anything that causes a push, pull, slide or renders the target unable to deal an opportunity attack will break a grab. (PHB290)

Male Deva Swordmage

Tomorrow is a no-post day for me, so I wanted to get this in.

Spoiler:
If G4 attacks anything else, Setil uses Transposing Lunge. 26 vs. AC; 16 damage and teleport G4 to R15.

Setil wrote:

** spoiler omitted **

Got it, thanks! I suspect it may be applicable.

Athletics vs. Fort to Escape 1d20+13=29

Rage Strike (expend Macetail Rage) vs. G2 1d20+15=31, Damage 3d10+10=29

Another 3 hp added to SH's total.

With a deft twist the dragonborn shrugs out of the twining coils, dropping to the cobbled square. Kill Point flickers, snake-quick, in a wide and bloody arc. The grell, robbed for the moment of its meal, hoots madly, a cacophony of shrill sound.

Grell 2:-57hp

Sundered Heart easily fends off the grell's return strike, catching several flailing tentacles with Kill Point's shaft even as the grell floats backwards.

Grell 2 Misses, shifts to S10

Hideous coils tighten around Madda, alien strength crushing the breath out of her. The gaping beak snaps and again the young druid spasms helplessly, the venom burning through her.

Sustain Grab (minor), Tentacle Grab (standard)20 damage. Venomous Bite (minor) 24 vs AC, 13 damage. Stunned (save ends). 33hp damage to Madda, she is bloodied

Its prey gone, the last of the horrid trio seeks a new victim, swooping close enough to Karnn to lash out, letting the alien venom begin its work. As Karnn feels the first tingles of lethargy, an unexpected burst of azure flame engulfs the grell - tentacles and all - and it is gone.

Tentacle Rake 24 vs AC, 6 damage. Karnn is Slowed and -2 to Attack (save ends).(Totals reflect Setil's Mark and Aegis of Shielding interrupt) Transposing Lunge from Setil, grell -16 hp, teleported to R15

A surprised chitter escapes the Philosopher as Setil's transposition deposits a second grell in his lap, but he quickly takes advantage of the situation, scuttling behind the disoriented lackey and unleashing a burst of caustic psychic venom that plows into the Swordmage's mind, wracking synapses and clouding the distinction between friend and foe. Sundered Heart has no such issues, his rage coloring his foes a splendidly psychotic red.

shift to R14,Venomous Mind (Close Burst 3) Setil: 26 vs Will, 14 psychic damage. Setil must choose a random target for any melee attacks it makes (save ends). Sundered Heart: 16 vs Will misses.

UPDATED MAP

4.14: Galad: 67/76 HP
4.13: Madda: 17/88 HP, Bloodied, Grabbed (move action to escape), Dazed (save ends), Stunned (save ends)
4.13: Setil: 66/91 HP
4.01: Peasants: Mostly gone!

5.27: Karnn: 81/87 HP, Resist Force 10, Slowed and -2 to Attack (save ends)
5.19: Sundered Heart: 56/101 HP
4.17: Horrid Grell 2: -57HP
5.17: Horrid Grell 3: -89HP
5.17: Horrid Grell 4: -45HP, Teleported, Marked & Shielded
5.16: Grell Philosopher

Might be a good time to toss your sheepdog a few saves - I see Galad can grant her at least one with Sudden Restoration

female Human Druid 11 (Adroit Explorer 1)

Well, that's as much use as a chocolate teapot. Sigh. She is just rolling too horribly to survive.

Saves v stun (1d20=18)
Saves v daze (1d20=4)

Madda feels life oozing away as the Grell's poison seeps further into her body. She hangs helpless in the things tentacles, little more than a lifeless doll, barely holding on to a tiny corner of her conscious mind.

Setil:

Spoiler:
The Venomous Mind ability that you just got walloped with is a bit vague on the "random target for your melee attacks" bit, so I am going to rule that it affects any power with a [b]melee[b] keyword, and your random choices include any target you can reach with a shift.

Male Deva Shaman 2

Galad waves his totem again, and as the spirit once again stabs at the grell, Madda's senses clear and the grell is violently flung away.

Stalker's Strike(vs Fort, standard), Sudden Restoration on Madda(minor), and Primal Gust on the grell holding Madda, to R10(minor). (Note: If there are two copies of this roll on IC, it was a complete accident.) 1d20+11=16, 4+8=12

From nowhere, a fierce swirling breath of wind tumbles the grell off balance, tentacles flailing madly as it tries to right itself some distance away.

Madda drops unceremoniously to the cobbles, staring woozily up at an equally bewildered spectral ancestor, who in mid-swing finds himself suddenly bereft of a target.

Stalker's Strike misses. Since Galad's Sudden Restoration occurs before Madda's turn, I'll need an additional save roll from Madda (presumably vs. Stun), prior to adjudicating her turn, which may end up considerably brighter than she had feared.

UPDATED MAP

female Human Druid 11 (Adroit Explorer 1)

It would be v daze. She actually made the save v stun (18) on her own turn.

Crossing some fingers here...
Save v Daze (1d20=4)
Uncrossing fingers and just shrugging resignedly. Thanks Galad - I'm sorry I blew it for you. It's still looking a lot brighter for her though.

Madda shakes her head, but the alien energies that corrupt her senses refuse to flee.

At least she'll have an action next turn!

Setil is up but he'll be AFK for the evening, I believe. Regardless of his actions, the remainder of the townsfolk and pilgrims have scurried to safety.

female Human Druid 11 (Adroit Explorer 1)

Trust me she will take full advantage of it if she's not grabbed by another blasted grell in the meantime.

Male Deva Swordmage

I have like two minutes to do this and Madda's looking rough, so DM, can you roll the dice for me? Shift to S15 and do Electrified Lash and then Healing word on Madda. Thanks, and sorry for this rough post.

No problem at all Setil - I've said from the get-go that this isn't a pace-enforced game.

Setil's pallid form moves with precise grace, his blade whispering in arcane patterns as he shifts to a choicer position. His face serene amidst the chaos, he calls upon Pelor's light to pierce the clouds and heal the young woman recently fallen to the earth. Pelor answers, a bright shaft of sunlight cleaving both twilight and thundercloud to bathe Madda with radiant, cleansing warmth.

The deva then thrusts his blade skyward, waking lightning from the clouds, sending it arcing and spitting towards the pair of abominations he has engaged. The smaller of the two writhes at the lightning's kiss, beak open in a soundless screech. The larger - itself crowned in lightning already - seems oblivious to the crackling assault.

Shift to S15, Electrified Lash G1:31 vs Fort for 0 Lightning damage, G4:30 vs Fort for 15 Lightning damage. Healing Word (Surge)+16=+38 hp for Madda.

UPDATED MAP

For those of you unfamiliar with the beasts: A Grell!

Karrn's body tingles, part excitment part poison "See and I thought I wouldn't have any fun"

"Hey ugly" he calls out to the bigger of the flying masses, before leting two dragonic shaped blasts loose at the thing.

Dragonfrost on G1, 1d20+13=28 and 33 vs AC, WOOHOO CRIT; Damage 1d10+8=16 and 18 cold damage[/url]; Crit damage (gotta love using high crit weapons as implements) 2d6=16 and weapon enhancement 2d6=11, so 27+18=45 damage total (thanks crit)

Save vs Daze (thanks to rolling an odd number) 1d20=8

Saves vs Daze and Slow 1d20=20 and 8

So I'm not dazed, just slow now

Athletics to Jump to Q13 (adjacent to G1) 1d20+18=30

Minor Action - Dragon Breath Attack vs. G1 and G4

Dragon Breath vs. G1 and G4 Reflex 1d20+11=31

Critical Hit! Max Damage 16

Does this mean I have a free melee attack? If yes,

Screaming Hawk Strke vs. G1 1d20+15=29, Damage 2d10+10=19

G1 suffers a -2 penalty to AC until the end of my next turn.

SH retains use of Screaming Hawk Strike 1d20=18

Just a reminder: any ally within 5 squares of SH who hits with
a melee attack gains a +2 bonus to the damage roll, as per Inspire Ferocity.

G1 can't be happy after getting crit'd by Karrn and Sundered Heart :)

Sundered Heart

Spoiler:

Spoilered my last action and I thought the DM would post what I said after that turn went by I didn't notice. Anyway when I used my Chaos bolt last I wound up giving it a new name, fitting the description I gave it....

"Didn't like that did ya, Lumpy! Well have some more!"

Karrn moves about the battle again, before forming another puny sized orb of energy

"Karrn Cannonball!"

Did ya get the reference

Very true :D

Question for Laz: Where are the TWO Dragonfrost attacks coming from? If it is Twin Strike from your Dilettante racial, that is an encounter power for you, and already used here. if this is the case, I'd be comfortable letting you use your Action Point to keep your turn/effects as rolled, otherwise, your Crit will be lost, though your first roll would still count for a hit.

Below items (and Sundered's turn) pending above item. :)

I believe that on your Crit you also can push the target 1 square and knock it prone, thanks to the Unfettered Power part of your Wild Magic heritage. I've taken the liberty of adjusting the map to reflect this. Just noticed that Dragonfrost also has a push1 involved.. adjusted the map again!

Save vs Daze (thanks to rolling an odd number) 1d20=8

I am not certain that you can "keep" your odd-number save. To me, it reads like you can make an immediate save, if necessary. In this case, not a big deal anyways, but for future purposes, we'll treat it that way.

Karrn wrote:
Saves vs Daze and Slow 1d20=20 and 8

Sorry! I goofed this one up. Karnn wasn't Dazed (Psychic Stormattack from G1 missed him), but Slowed and -2 to attack (save ends both) from G4's Tentacle Rake. Your attack rolls were both high enough to hit despite the -2, and you made the single save necessary, you are no longer hindered in any way.

No, as per the wording of Rampage: Once per round, when you score a critical hit with a barbarian attack power...

Sorry if I am coming off as a spoilsport - I'm really not, I am just trying to learn the rules and get things right!

No problem with that. I was not sure. Hence, the spoiler.

Dragon Breath Attack vs. G4 1d20+11=20

Damage to G4 if attack hits 2d6+4=12

Thanks! 20 vs Reflex will miss. Funny thing is, (and I forgot to mention) you need one attack roll per target, but only ONE damage roll, total. <sigh>

Turn results & update will most likely be late today. ;)

I am becoming convinced that it's not the bad guys being lucky, it's y'all heroes being unlucky! I am having fun though, and I hope y'all are as well!

Karnn's twinned bolts of frost slam brutally into the larger grell, the raindrops in their wake now crazily tumbling flakes of pristine snow. The philosopher lets out a frantic croak, thrashing dangling tentacles in sudden, unexpected pain.

Laz, I used your action point to retain your 2nd bolt crit, as noted here. If I have missed or misinterpreted a rule somewhere, please let me know in the discussion thread and we'll get it straightened out.

Sundered Heart erupts skyward, landing in a half crouch beside the philosopher, exhaling a gout of roaring dragonfire that leaves flesh charred and smoking despite the rain. A sudden lunge, and Kill Point opens a wound that seeps oily black ichor, twisting the grell out of balance and leaving it vulnerable - for now.

Grell Philosopher: -35 HP, -2 AC. Dragon Breath misses G4

Setil's opponent regains his orientation and sidesteps, lashing out at the blade-wielding Deva furiously, enwrapping him again in a multitude of coils that draw him closer to the lunging beak. The grell hoots in frustration as the deva desperately fends the beak away.

Barbed tentacles roiling, Madda's most recent adversary charges at her again, a brutal blow ripping flesh and leaving her head ringing.

Tentacle Rake 29 vs AC, 21 damage, Slowed and -2 to Attack (save ends)

The remaining grell lurches in behind Sundered Heart, taking advantage of the philosopher's presence to flank the Barbarian. The dragonborn once again feels ropy coils snake around him, popping away scales as they grasp hold, dragging him to the envenomed maw.

Move to Q12, Tentacle Grab (standard) 24 vs Fort, 12 damage and Grabbed (move action to escape).Venomous Bite (minor) 30 vs AC, 11 damage and Stunned (save ends)

The feat Versatile Master from the PHB2 changes the encounter power from Dilettante from an Encounter power to an At-Will.

The spirit floats next to Madda and slices again at the grell. As a healing surge of energy flows into Sundered and Madda, one of the grell is engulfed in a searing light.

Move spirit to U9(move), Defenders Strike against grell(standard), Healing Spirit on Sundered, with extra healing to Madda(minor), spend an AP to get an extra action(and renews Sudden Restoration), then using Spirit of the Hawk's Wind on Grell 4. Extra healing for Madda, Defenders Strike, and Spirit of the Hawk's Wind: 3d6=14, (1d20+11=13, 1d8+9=11), (1d20+11=29, 2d8+9=19)
