Are there any +0 ECL Undead PC races? Possibly with a Living Dead sub-type, kind of like the Living Construct sub-type for Warforged and their ilk?

Is there a Quickwood sub-type for +0 ECL Plant PC races?

Thanks!

Not that I can think of.

You might like the Half-Undead in Dragon 313. But I don't think they get the Undead subtype though.

The Gheden in that issue only has ECL +1, and the ability to detect mindless undead and immunity to fear and massive damage and nonlethal among other things.

There's some prestige classes that give you free undeadness and living deadness as part of their packages, but those are prestige classes. Closest might be the risen martyr or whatever it is in the BoeD, where you come back as an extremely solid good ghost.

I'm not certain about revenants, but it seems they and necropolitans could be backed off into +O ECL races. Maybe you had a shoddy crucimigration--the chanting zombies were flat or something, or you signed up for the Necropolitan super-budget package.

Yeah, I keep meaning to work on this, using the Warforged as a template, but I just got the Tome of Magic, so I've been busy reading that. :-P

I'm working on a new campaign that I probably won't get to DM for several years, and I'm making new races for it. They're all pretty powerful. It's for Pathfinder. One thing I'm incorporating are Racial Talents the PC races get at levels 2, 6, 10, 14, and 18. With the new Pathfinder feat progression and the regular ability boosts, those levels look a little barren.

The only thing I can think of for Humans for those levels are bonus Skill Tricks from the Complete Scoundrel. I'm considering maybe additional ability boosts, but that seems a bit extreme. Maybe bonus Luck feats.

The Libra Mortis has some feats that make you undead for the effects of positive and negative energy, and other minor perks of undeath.

It also has a +0 LA something or other in the monsters section, Necropolian or something like that.

Actually the Libra Mortis has a lot of interesting stuff for including undead in a campaign.

It doesn't have an LA, but you have to die and be brought back, so that usually amounts to a lost level (at least in 3e).

And it's Libris Mortis. :D They even have an explanation that screams "COP-OUT!" why it has this horrible name that isn't just gramattically incorrect but also sounds crappy.

I think "Necronomicon" was already taken. ;-)

EDIT: I checked out the necropolitan, and it might be exactly what I'm looking for. My campaign has a country ruled by undead, and I can see the living citizens of means going through a ritual to become a minor undead aristocrat.

Well, there is the Forsaken from World of Warcraft RPG.

The corpse creature and bone creature at the back of the Book of Vile Darkness are both undead templates. Neither have level adjustments (though the CR of the corpse creature increases by +1). One turns a character into what is essnetially an intellegent zombie, and the other into an intellegent skeleton.

We are building a race like this for the upcoming OGL setting Obsidian Twilight. We some what based them off of Vampire Hunter D and Blade. The setting should be out soon for you to check them out.

Undead--Living Dead subtype

Features:

The Living Dead have the features of Undead for any racial hit dice, if any, they possess. Most Living Dead use the BAB, Hit Dice, Saving Throws, and Skill Points of the class or classes they possess.

Traits:

Unlike other Undead, the Living Dead have a Consitution score.

The Living Dead possess Darkvision with a 60 foot range.

Unlike other Undead, the Living Dead are not immune to mind influencing effects.

The Living Dead have immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, disease, fatigue, exhaustion, nauseau, and death effects.

Unlike other Undead, the Living Dead are subject to critical hits, effects requiring a Fortitude save, death from massive damage, non-lethal damage, stunning, ability damage, and ability drain.

Negative energy heals the Living Dead, positive energy harms the Living Dead.

The Living Dead respond differently from other living creatures when reduced to 0 hit points or less. The Living Dead are disabled when their hit points are between 0 and -9. At -10, they are destroyed.

The Living Dead do not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, but can still benefit from the effects of consumable spells and magic items, such as heroes' feast and potions.

The Living Dead do not need to sleep, but must rest for 8 hours before preparing spells.

Destroyed Living Dead can be reanimated with certain necromancy spells. Animate dead acts as a raise dead spell, create undead acts as a resurrection spell, and greater create undead act as a true resurrection spell.

The absola resemble intelligent zombies or fangless vampires. They smell like the herbs and spices that preserve their undead flesh.

Absola

+2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma, -2 Dexterity. Their prolonged existence provide the absola with great insight, and the will to exist beyond death results from a strong personality, but their frames lack some of the grace and vitality of the living.

Undead. Absola are undead, and have the strengths and weaknesses of the undead type, but see Living Dead below.

Medium sized.

Normal Speed.

Darkvision 60 feet.

Living Dead. The absola have the Living Dead sub-type.

Progressive Fortification. The absola have a 5% chance per hit die to avoid the extra damage of critical hits and sneak attacks.

Graveborn Magic. The absola have a +1 racial bonus to the save DCs of any necromantic effect or necromancy spell or spell-like ability they use.

Daylight Blindness. Abrupt exposure to bright light (such as sunlight or a daylight spell) blinds an absola for 1 round. On subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area.

Automatic Languages: Common and Undercommon.
Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Draconic, Goblin, Infernal, Sylvan.

Favored Class: Cleric or Sorcerer.

ECL: +0.

I like it, my thanks for posting this idea.

Yeah, I really like the idea of the Living Dead sub-type. Now we can design lower ECL undead races.
