Expeditious Retreat Press Acquires the Rights to Produce the Freeport Companion compatible with the 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons
(Coshocton, OH; March 25, 2009) Expeditious Retreat Press has acquired the rights from Green Ronin Publishing, LLC to produce the Freeport Companion compatible with the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. The book will complement The Pirate’s Guide to Freeport, a systemless setting book published by Green Ronin in 2007, and make it easy for GMs to us e Freeport in their 4e campaigns.
"We're excited about the opportunity to translate Freeport into the 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons mechanics," noted Suzi Yee, XRP's project manager of the 4e Freeport Companion. “Freeport began as a d20 System setting,” added Green Ronin President Chris Pramas, “so it’s only natural to adapt it to the new edition and XRP is the perfect company for the job.”
Full press release can be found here. I find this intriguing. Could this be a possible precedent for former 3.x publishing companies not switching to 4th edition to have their earlier works published/continued in the latest D&D ruleset?

This is interesting on the heels of Green Ronin saying they won't be doing anything for 4E but allowing another 3PP to produce one of their supplements to 4E. It is like a win-win as they get the 4E coverage and their own development team can cover their own things. There was probably a business deal struck as well and Green Ronin will benefit from that as well.

It's hot. I was in Texas from '78 to '06 with a 4 year stint in New Orleans, so I'm pretty much worn out on hot. When I get old and my joints are tired of the cold, I may move back. :)
