My Obituary

Imagine my surprise when, after Googling myself, I found my own obituary. Okay, it's not really me, but it's still spooky.

Liberty's Edge

In one of the cemeteries in Ticonderoga, NY, there's a gravestone marked "D MALLON." This is doubly creepy due to the fact that there is no record of a "D MALLON" living in Ticonderoga before myself.

Okay, when I looked at the title, I thought that something very bad had happened. You should have titled it something which made it clear you were in no way going to die, like a Monty Python quote. Don't scare us like that.

So, your parents never told you about your identical twin?

You should dig it up.

If it's empty . . .

Well, having read it, maybe it is something to aspire to?

Maybe you too can be a real renaissance man, a doctor, a scientist, a sailor etc etc?

Actually, my hope was to draw people in with the thread title. However, reports of my demise are indeed greatly exagerated.

I wrote my own obituary and then posted it, via blogger, a couple of weeks in the future. I keep it a couple of weeks in the future.

If anything should happen to me... you'll be able to read it, in a couple of weeks at ianehewitt.blogspot.com

That's different, but can be in a good way. Dwelling on the life, rather than the death. One, you strive to live up to your obit - 'loved by all, etc'. Two, you get it right.

I do geneaology for my family and it drives me bonkers when people mention family ties and get it wrong. If you want to have your memory preserved it should be done correctly and on your own terms.
