My game day was AWESOME!! I went to MidSouth Con and won a PHB and a PHB 2! Thats great cuz I was gonna make the jump to 4.0 soon. So now all I have to do is get the MM and the DMG.

My Game Day was interesting.

I had been asked to run a game at the local store so I was ready to run the adventure through. When we started the first game we had seven players and two DMs. It was decided that since it was very likely that a few people would walk in asking to play, the other DM was given five of players and I waited with the other two players.

Little more than an hour later no one else had showed up so I started running the game. The store clerk joined in to take some of the characters and the game was off with the three players controlling the five characters and it was going pretty well I thought. The combat seemed to be taking a while, but no major issues.

An hour into the module, about half way through the first battle, there was a call that a man was bringing four more players.

We talked a bit about what to do and in the end it was decided I would continue running the game till they arrived, then give the game to one of the players before running a new game for the new group as I was apparently the most comfortable running a game for a group of complete strangers.

They got there a little more than half an hour later, the group was composed of five people. The person that called with two girls and two boys whose ages I think ranged from about 8 to 12. I was a little surprised but I rolled with it. None of the children had played D&D before, although a few had played the miniatures game, so I did my best to explain what I describe the basics of D&D going down the sheets telling them what hit points are, what Armor Class and other defenses meant, what surges were, how fast their characters could move, and so on. The powers and abilities of their characters were so expansive, I thought that it would be best if I just explained at-will/encounter/daily and standard action/move action/minor action/other action then deal with individual powers during battle.

During the battle I ended up suggested powers like the Oath of Enmity to the avenger's player, Divine Challenge to paladin's player, and so on to each of the players on their turns as a way to teach them about their class features.

Since it was getting to be about 6 PM about an hour into that fight, they had to leave, without finishing the first battle. I think that they had fun though, I hope so at least.

I then went back to the front to control the bard in combat for a few rounds before the group deciding they didn't really feel like continuing further.

Overall, I think I had a fun time teaching people to play despite not being able to make it through a single encounter as a DM or a player.

My Game Day was interesting.

Sure, here's a copy of my notes--

Squeaks: In the last days of Nerath, a political faction immerged that was disturbed at the idea of warforged running free with the crumbling authority of the government--fearing roving bands of uncontrolled constructs who knew only killing. They lock him away in a vault, and then the empire collapses. A hundred years pass (not great for his psyche). As nature reclaims the ruins of his prison, the warforged discovers a deep bond with them, and as it begins to disintegrate the chamber and bracework he's locked in, he's able to burst himself free in a barbarian rage. He wanders the woods like an animal until he meets with Roswyn who takes an immediate liking for the big brute she nicknames Squeaks--and with her he's able to regain some of his ability to connect with and care for others.

Roswyn: Loud and boistrous amid a race that value reserve and silence, she eventually wears out her welcome in her small hidden village. In an misguided attempt to prove herself she gets captured by a group of formarians, but is rescued by Ilivarra--finding in her a kindred spirit. She also enjoys her relationship with Squeaks, seeing him almost as a kind of pet, and earns his genuine friendship.

Balasar: From the desert ruins of formor Arkhosia, Balasar never understood his father's pride in their heritage, seeing only greed and savagery in dragonkind. His views brand him an outcast until he meets Markaria. Through her he's able to find a new faith in Bahamut and eventually becomes a paladin. Now, as she succumbs to deep melancholy and pessimism regarding mortal-kind, he tries to draw her out with friendly jibes and competative rivalry.

Ilivarra: Grew up rich and pampered in Erilei-Cinlu, Vault of the Drow, part of a secret Sehinine worshiping avenger cult (sort of like a 1920's hellfire club) of stylish social rebels. As she ventures to the surface she discovers more of what Sehinine is really like, compared to her group's fairly jaded distortions of her, and it drives a wedge between her and her homeland--but gains her close friends in the form of the other PCs.

Markaria: Originally from Gloomwrought, city of the keepers, on the sea coast in the Shadowfell. As a tiefling, one with no real sense of identity and purpose except as a vestage of some long ago fallen empire, she embarked on a search for meaning in the universe. She became an invoker of the Raven Queen in search of that truth and has been her embodiment in the world ever sense. Her faith has given hope to the disillusioned Balasar and clarity to Ilivarra--but as time has gone on she's begun to withdraw from the mortal world, seeing them with increasing scorn and judgement as beings worthy only of judgement. Her friends reach out to her, hoping to draw her back and support her with their concern and friendship, in order to pay her back for the religious guidance and support she's always given them.

Now I want to see Drow flappers and bugbearskin coats.

And speakeasies where you can get sacramental dwarven ale. (Hard to think of a banned substance in the Vault of the Drow.)

The Exchange

Our Game Day was a blast. The Player Folders were AWESOME - I love them!

Amusingly, the guy DMing the table next to mine sounded just like one of the Dead Alewives ... "Well, it said I had blue but I wanted to have gray eyes!" We all kinda did the O.O and then busted out laughing ... poor guy still doesn't know what was so darned funny ...

Dude! A drow flapper would be HOT!
