Help! Players Threw me a Curve at Trinia's "Ceremony".......(Spoilers)

Curse of the Crimson Throne

Scarab Sages

HI Folks......I lurk here a lot and thought I might seek some advice. I've run Edge of Anarchy pretty much as written so far and players have really enjoyed it.

At Trinia's execution ceremony, the righteous dwarf cleric of Sarenrae announced that he was casting "enthrall" and would use the opportunity to tell the crowd of the injustice about to be done. As some soldiers are making their way through the crowd to seize him, Blackjack intervenes and grabs Trinia, making his speech as well. We broke for the night at that point, which was good, so I'll have a chance to replan.

The dwarf was standing far away from the rest of the party when he began his enthrall, but is nearby some soldiers. The rest of the group has taken no overt actions at this point.

My question is: What would the Queen do? Ignore him? Arrest him? Send assassins for him later?

How will the populace of Korvosa treat him? Will the Church be upset with him for upsetting the Queen? Will she move against the Church at some point? Thanks in advance!!

I think that the chaos that envelops when Blackjack appears would give the dwarf a chance to slip away into the crowd. Depending upon how close a look the guards got on him, the Queen might have him arrested later on for questioning depending upon whether he could be identified or not. If the dwarf gets arrested the other players might have a rescue action before them and might even become fugitives from the law.

One way to handle this would be to have other voices call out as well, so that sedition is being called from every corner of the quad, but also have others shouting their impassioned defense of the queen. Basically make it so prevalent that the character's actions are not unique, then have the queen call for order, and use her bardic abilities to make an eloquent claim of innocence. She has the class ability necessary to make a good accounting of herself.

Something along the lines of:

"I see that our city has enemies among us, people sworn to break the peace and order that so many of our ancestors died to buy. How low a deed, to sieze the killer of our king, my beloved husband, from her fate. This ceremony was to put an end to this tragic killing, and give us a chance to move on, and mourn our loss. Now treacherous rabble are trying to drive a wedge between us, with sedition and slander. We should not let them succeed. Long live Korvosa!"

The crowd go wild, and the party get warned to leave by one of their allies....

How will the populace of Korvosa treat him?
Like a seditious traitor, or at the very least, as a dangerous lunatic.

Will the Church be upset with him for upsetting the Queen?
Not as much as you might think. Curious about his motivations, perhaps. This one is entirely open to your needs. If you want to play through a church conflict, do so.

Will she move against the Church at some point?
She is careful to keep her enemies list short, until later. She would more likely enlist their aid.

Remember that there were riots recently against the Queen. So I'd split the reaction between that of the aristocracy and that of the commoners.
