Yesterday an aide to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad demanded that Hollywood apologize to Iran for such unfair depictions as Not Without My Daughter and The 300. So what do you think? Should Hollywood apologize to Iran?
| Mairkurion {tm} |
Sure. Right after Iran apologizes to Greece for all the Persian invasions over the years. (Taking on Hollywood? Really, when you're a puppet ruler like Abadabajobberwad, you don't have much to do.)
And Hollywood apologizes to all of us for all the crappy movies and cinematic recycles it's foisted on the public over the years.
It's a shame that Iran doesn't get a better government. All the Iranian/Persians I've gotten to know are wonderful folks.

Did they ever apologize to the U.S. hostages they took?

If Hollywood caught fire and sank into the earth, it would be none too soon. Overpaid, pompous celebrity royalty can all hang as far as i am concerned. They live in a different country under a different set of rules and people worship them for it.
That and good god a decent movie hasn't been released in years lol

Yea. Sure. A city (or a section of a city, or whatever) should apologize for the actions of an industry that happens to be located there. Whatever.
But more to the topic: Did the movie industy apologize for making Hitler's Germany look bad, no. Did the movie industry apologize for all the racial analogies in the oringinal King Kong, no. Did the movie industry apologize to all the physically and mentally handicapped they made fun of over the years, no. Did the movie industry apologize for all the sequals to the Pirates of the Caribbean or Back to the Future movies, no. Did the movie industry apologize to the Orcish-Americans for the LotR movies, no.
What makes Iran so special that they feel they deserve an apology from the movie industry for? Their job is to entertain. Sometimes they make good movies, sometimes they do not. Sometimes they villinize those that deserve to be, sometimes they do not. If someone cannot tell the difference between a movie and reality, you should not have kids, let alone run a country.

The reason the Persians were so overdone in 300 was because the story was being told in epic fashion. That's why everything was over the top and outrageous. The heroes are the epitomes of warrior virtues, and their foes are the exact opposite, to the point of grotesque monstrosity.
As for apologies, look how long it took the United States to apologize for slavery and the Japanese internment camps. If Iran wants apologies for movies that came out a few years ago, they'd better not hold their breath.

Oh, come on, Shadowborn. I think it'd be a great experiment! Let's have the entire government (and shadow government) of Iran hold their breath until they get an apology, and see what happens!
It would be amusing...I don't know of anyone that's ever dropped dead from holding their breath though.

Unfortunately you would pass out and start breathing again before you died...
EDIT: The plant ninjaed me! ... three minutes ago.

The reason 300 was so over the top was it was a Comic book adaptation.
Strange, no one asked for an apology for Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls...heh

I would have had some fun with Gerard Butler. After he delivered one of his, “THIS IS SPARTA!!!” lines…
“Gerard, that was pretty good, but do you think you could take it up a notch?”
“Better, but I think it needs more umph.”
“You are getting there. I did not see any of your veins bulging though. Do you think you could put a little more feeling into it?”
“Oh! So close. Just a little more.”

David Fryer wrote:Then I want an apology for the last two Batman movies that Tim Burton did.Batman and Batman Begins? Why? Those were the good ones. Are you thinking of the later ones with Joel Schumacher?
Sorry, yeah I meant the Schumacher films. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were absolute drek, despite George Cloony being the best Batman of the series.

Sean Penn has Iranian buddies?
Yep.
Sean Penn hasn't met a dictator that he didn't like.
That too.

Yes, Hollywood should apologise. Right after it apologises to Britain for making our actors always play the bad guys, AND for claiming British triumphs as American ones (U571, I'm looking at you).
We'll apologize for that, right after England apologizes for the cabbie asking me how things are in the Colonies.

Now that you mention it, it does seem like the Brits are always the bad guys in movies.

Sure, right after Iran apologizes for depictions of westerners in its movies.
For the record, if you ever watch movies from outside the United States, the depictions of Americans are usually less than flattering to say the least.
What's good for the goose... well you know.

Don't forget about them stealing quality show ideas from the BBC and turning them into rancid turds.

Oooo--you want to see the Brits come off bad? Watch an Indian movie. Wow.
At Veector - Huh. The Iranian movies I've watched must have been all arthouse/hothouse films. Seems like they were all about children, balloons, shoes, fish, that sort of thing, with nary a Westerner in sight. (If anything, they may have been very subtly critical of the revolution.)

Most of those BBC shows where rancid turds to begin with... Bad-dum-bump
;-)
