Does this boy, his name, his family or anything to do with him play a role later in the campaign.
I just started running this campaign - we're half-way through chapter 1 - I've read as DM up through Chapter 3.
Essentially if I change the name or remove him from the game, or change anything about the story in chapter one involving him is this going to cause later issues in the story?

He does make an appearance in a later adventure. You could remove it without too much difficulty if necessary.
Could you provide more info - such as where in the campaign he appears; that way I can go read that first before making any changes - that way any changes I might make will be able to know how to fit it in later, too.

In Kings of the Rift Alastor reveals to the PCs that he has the blood of the wind dukes in his veins, as do the PCs. So yes, he bears some relevance to the storyline.
Thanks; I'll be sure to read that now then. I am curious as to what impact that fact does for the story (or is it just anecdotal information).
So I'm going to read that.
I'm currently wanting to add some emphasis to that bloodline being important to the resolution of the adventure path. In fact, as part of the introduction to the campaign, I had some primer info, and a little side-trek quests on the first game that involve the murder and history of murders in Diamond Lake....and the victims were all distant family members of Alastor.
So far, the party has learned of half of the murders and their connections to the Land family. The other half, they'll learn about soon enough.
The point is this: maybe someone or something affiliated with the Age of Worms prophecy and wanting its success knows of the bloodline, and is eliminating it.
Just what and who this is - will depend on the information I learn as to just why the fact that Alastor Land is a descendant of the wind-duke is important to the story.
Since I'm running this in Golarion (Varisia - tying it to the Runelords of Thassilon), I'll know more as to how to tie that lineage to the story after I read that.

IIRC, from discussions a couple years ago, the Land/Wind-Dukes/Rod of Seven Parts element was originally supposed to have a more central place in the plot, but it was dropped because of space concerns. There are some hints of this in A Gathering of Winds, The Spire of Long Shadows, Kings of the Rift, and Dawn of a New Age; you could also check the message board archives.

I just ran that part of Kings of the Rift this past weekend!
My PCs had started the campaign with the Prince of Redhand, and had never seen Land before Kings of the Rift. So I replaced him with a former PC in my campaign who had been killed in action.
I don't know how you run your game but it's entirely possible most of the PCs alive now in your game won't be alive by Kings of the Rift. If that's the case, I wouldn't worry about it. You will need to adapt on the fly anyway.

Thanks. So if I'm reading into your comments correctly - as written, the fact that Alastor Land is a possible descendant of the Wind Dukes makes no bearing on the campaign (by possibly some destiny thing or other) except for a neat correllation or interesting story addition?
If not - it is certainly something that can be built on more; which I will attempt to do.

As far as the published AoWAP, yes. Alastor Land as a descendent of the Wind Dukes has no bearing on the central plot. Also, the Rod of Seven Parts element can be easily dispensed with (or swapped out for another artifact).
If not - it is certainly something that can be built on more; which I will attempt to do.
It's definitely possible to expand on these elements, making them more central to the main plot. You may want to check the archives for ideas. Searches for "Alastor Land," "Wind Dukes," and "Rod of Seven Parts" should pull up some of the old discussions.

Thank you for the input. I do intend to work more of an important role with the "land" bloodline then, and the rod of 7 parts. I'll look for the old threads as suggested. Thanks again for the tips.
