October–December 2009 Pathfinder Companions Announced!

Pathfinder Player Companion

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

We've just announced two new Pathfinder Companions:

October:
Pathfinder Companion: Dwarves of Golarion

December:
Pathfinder Companion: Andoran, Spirit of Liberty

As always, the covers at this point are just mockups, and do not reflect the final product.

Someone must like Dwarves, James has said they would be last if he had his way in the chat alot :)

bah! dwarves! you humans mistake me for one all the time! I don't chew on metal... well there was that one time... but it was only to test the coin, I didn't mean to swallow it! Gnomes are what you need! Tell McArtor to get crackin!

Well... I don't always get my way!

As much as I love dwarves, I don't feel it needed to be next. They weren't changed alot. Elves I could see, and also the timing with Second Darkness. Gnomes were needed more so than the others...oh well...

"Bravo!"

i was thinkin' the same thing. and, to be honest, i wasn't very impressed with elves of golarion.

but the paizo addict that i am, i'll be purchasing dwarves of golarion. i can't wait for gnomes, though.

I am sure we aren't the only two. I know dwarves do have a large following, but I mean come on theyare dwarves...they are pretty much the same in every campaign setting. Gnomes people always complain have no flavour or place, so I was hoping for them.

I have been a little less than pleased with the Companions which shocks me because I am a huge Paizo addict and love what the put out, but when the Osirion one had no map or Sothis or traits I was a little turned off, then the LoF Companion came out I felt it was a bit better, but not much still. I will reserve judgement for the next one though.

Much as I love dwarves, gnomes is definately the book that should have been next. The treatment they've got in all the Pathfinder products just screams for a more thorough treatment.

I scream for treatment all the time. But the orderlies just keep ignoring me.

So.. Half-orcs of Golarion. When? In my opinion the interaction between the human and orc races really deserves exploration beyond "well, they war a lot, war includes a lot of not so pleasant interraction between the sexes. Everybody hates half-orcs, although true orcs often think they're kind of smart and useful."

I also agree we need Gnomes.

It is like 4e...gno gnome love :P

I am just kidding of course. At least Paizo figured out how to give the gnomes flavour. I am looking forward to the gnome book when it comes out however.

We didn't have to flavor them—they're naturally delicious. Though a simple marinade keeps them tender *and* flavorful.

Spoiler:

1 bunch oregano
1 bunch thyme
1/4 c soy sauce
1/4 c balsamic vinegar
1/4 c extra-virgin olive oil
6 cloves garlic, chopped
1 small jalapeno pepper, chopped (or something hotter if you prefer)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp salt
1 gnome flank steak, about 2 pounds

Put it all into a zip-top bag and marinate for 8–24 hours before grilling.

** spoiler omitted **

But are they as delicious as elves? After all, Keebler made cookies out of elves...

Easily could have lived without the Elves book, in fact is one of the very few Paizo products I still do not have. See no reason to buy a book about treehumping weirdos!

Dwarves are a major staple of the genre and are a million times more awesome than elves.

Gnomes, well, they are the next most awesome race of course. They have an interesting flavor that is for sure, but a pint of ale makes them go down better. And sometimes they can come back on you, if you know what I mean!

As far as the Companions line and quality goes, I think Paizo is still looking for that "just right" balance. The Companion line is supposed to be a Player friendly line, so it walks a fine line, and with so few pages, every word, image, and topic is at the utmost premium.

'Bout time my kin get their proper respect.

Not to be a total fanboy, but I'm looking forward to all the Pathfinder Companions featuring races. I expect they'll see use sooner than ones on specific regions unless those regions are featured in APs.

Huh, more products.

*looks again*

*mouths words* A..n..d..o..r..a..n...

*HEAD ASPLODE IN JOY*

And now I am dead. Blargh.

I was disappointed with Elves of Golarion. IMHO, 32 pages are just not enough for that kind of product.

Oh, well, the companion elves of Golarion that I encountered followed Calistria and they did not disappoint!

*ahem*

Having said that, elves aren't really my thing so if something was missing from the Elves of Golarion book, I probably didn't notice. I just want companion books (with traits!) for all the races so I can be ready for whatever weird thing my players want to play, even if it's elves.
