Supplement files available?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

A couple of years ago, when I had a subscription to Dungeon, Paizo provided a free PDF for download which contained only the maps and other artwork, including maps suitable for players' eyes. So, no secret doors, etc., were showing up on these images.

I don't see that a similar file is available for Pathfinder subscribers, but I could just be missing it. I see in a 2007 post, that the editor wanted to do this. Does anyone know if player maps are availabe, either in the subscriber's PDF copy or as a seperate download?

Nothing akin to the Dungeon supplement PDF's is available from Paizo for Pathfinder (AP's or Modules).

However, if you have the PDF of the Pathfinder issue, you can copy the maps and art directly from the PDF (using the Select Tool in Adobe Acrobat). So, really, there isn't a need for Paizo to produce a supplementary PDF.

That's pretty much true, but you still have things like secret doors, hidden passageways, etc that are displayed on the map that should remain hidden until found by the PCs.

You certainly can grab images off the PDF, but you're still getting an encounter key # on the image, which is a dead giveaway that *something* is potentially significant about the area.

I use Maptool for online gaming, and you can limit vision around the big "S" that's attached to a wall, but the fact that the players can now see a big old bulge is a nice clue for them to start searching in that spot. Painting over the image is an option, but I'll probably never be able to edit an image as well as Paizo could simply strip off a 'GM Layer' from the original image source.

What Pdf reader are you using? all but the most recent version of adobe allow you to take a screenshot (which includes the encounter numbers and secret doors) or selection tool which allows you to select the map layer without the text layer.

You shouldn't have this problem. If you're using Adobe Acrobat (version 9 has a problem with this, which is why I'm using version 8), you should be able to enable the Select Tool (Tools > Select & Zoom > Select Tool). Use the pointer to click on a map, then right click and select copy. Then just paste it into Paint, GIMP, or some similar application to save it. This copies the map image sans all the text (S's, encounter areas, names, etc.).

If you're using the Snapshot Tool (Tools > Select % Zoom > Snapshot Tool), then all it does is allow you to draw a box around the map that copies to your clipboard. That is effectively a screen capture of that specific area and will have all the text markers in the image.

Hope that helps.

PS: If you're using Acrobat 9, the Select Tool is either disabled or broken. "Upgrade" to version 8 if you want it to work.

I must be doing something wrong. I've got Acrobat 8, and when I try the first Pathfinder issue, Burnt Offerings, and the big map on page 34 of Thistletop, I see that it's in sections.

When I use the select tool and left-click on an image, only part of the image is selected. I right-click, copy, and then paste in Paint.NET. I get the image section that was highlighted, and it shouldn't be a big deal to stitch the different sections together, but also, the paste includes the image and all the text.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the tip, though.

UPDATE: looks like it may have been an issue w/ the PDF I was using. I just tried this with the PDF of the 4th Pathfinder issue, and it works just fine.

In fact, when I page through the document, I can see Adobe refreshing the images in layers on this file, whereas on the first file, it doesn't do that. I guess when Paizo first launched their Pathfinder subscription, they were publishing the images as just a single-layer.

I believe the first two Pathfinder pdfs have the words embedded. They fix it in Hook Mountain Massacre.

Not to worry though, if you bop down to the Rise of the Runelords forums there are a ton of community made maps without the words.
