Seven Days Quandary ...

Curse of the Crimson Throne

In Edge of Anarchy, my party captured Trinia, believed her story, and smuggled her out of the city, along with several of the rescued orphans to the farm of one of the PCs grandparents for safekeeping ...

So, now I'm faced with Vencarlo asking them to escort the fake Trinia out of the city. Any thoughts? Anyone else hit this?

I was thinking of Vencarlo telling them that Blackjack told him that the PCs already rescued the real Trinia, but that orders are going out through the Queen's new troops, to start searching outside the city for the escapee, especially at any location where folks recently migrated to ::hint, hint:: So if they PCs really wish to save Trinia, they'll take this fake one to her, and the fake will make sure Trinia and she both get to a place of safety that Vencarlo has arranged. And no, he's not telling the PCs, because what they don't know, they can't be made to tell ...

Too heavy handed? :)

You could just skip the encounter. They've already done it, so there's no real reason to make them jump through hoops. You just need to have them doing some stuff while the plague spreads so that they can see its development. Any side quest appropriate to your party should work.

I'm with tbug. They resolved Trinia themselves, let it go.

You might want to introduce the Vencarlo/Blackjack thing though. Blackjack saves somebody, they end up at Vencarlo, Vencarlo asks the PCs to smuggle the person out since, according to his contacts, they have some experience in that area already.

Scarab Sages

I skipped it in my group as she was already out of the city. Wasn't a big deal for us.

Hmmm ... okay, what did you who skipped it do to get Vencarlo introduced to the folks as a remeet? That was the only reason I was looking for a change, to bring him back to the minds of the folks from EoA :) The boys of the party found him a bit smarmy, the gals loved his flattery ::chuckle:: But there will have been a long break between volumes ...

More cogitating ...

PC's favorite NPC gets captured by Grey Maidens. NPC gets rescued, must be taken out of town for own safety.

Could you please tell us a bit about your party? What happened between volumes?

Well, between volumes will be Second Darkness 1 and Rise of the Runelords 2 ::chuckle:: We are alternating the three APs around the table, and can only get together about once a month, so I still have several months of prep time to go before my turn behind the screen comes again.

My party currently consists of:

An apothecary/wizard ... human, he's an alchemist by skills and inclination, wizard by training. Family owns and runs a shop in East Shore, and it's at his grandparents that the stashed Trinia. His son was also his reason for going after Lamm, the boy had been kidnapped as a runaway. (I love my players, they give me so many hooks to make 'em sweat in the AP <G>).

A priestess of Shelyn ... half elf, former Lamm's Lamb, and the holder of the Harrow Deck. Lives at the Shelyn Temple in North Point, she was instrumental in finding homes for the rescued orphans, and is keeping tabs on them all as best she can in their new lives. Party is still surprised at this seemingly gentle gal's blood-thirstiness in dealing with Lamm :)

A ranger/marine ... half elf, goal in life is to be a hippogriff rider, which he'll accomplish just a bit before they have to flee the city <eg>. Former heir to his lesser noble family, was allowed to follow his actual wishes of a military career when a full blood heir was born. Still in good with his kin, and happy not to have to do all the nobility schtick. His connection to Lamm had been the murder of his betrothed and theft and sale of the promise ring he'd given her. He now has it back :)

A rogue ... half elf, Catspaw Lofty. She lives in the inn at North Point that Kroft arranged for the party, a rise in living conditions from the flop she'd been in. She's estranged from her family, a merchant group that runs messages around Korvosa for a fee, because she got hooked on Shiver and caused problems ... and she was a last kid born from Mom's fling with an old lover <g>. She does care about her family, so she's going to sweat a lot in Seven Days.

The players are good, and they all make notes about folks, but while I will remind them of facts that might have slipped their minds, I do want them to encounter all the big players they met before in the course of the play to jog their memories rather than a monologue ... they're sharp, and if I mention someone they may have noted as intriguing but not that vital to what they are up to (which is where I beleive they've lumped Vencarlo) they'll guess he's more important than they know :)

Hence my thoughts on getting the fake Trinia out of town, and moving the real Trinia away from the family farm :)
