My group and I are about to go through the Red Hand of Doom adventure. I'm going to start the group off with Tower of the Last Baron and toss in a lead in to the Red Hand of Doom story line. My only problem is where to set it. I had originally thought the River Kingdoms wold be perfect but unfortunately that does not seem to be the case. Any advice? I'd rather it wasn't too much further than Andoran...
I think that in order to fit it in without straying too far from Andoran, you will definitely need to do some tweaking to map of Elsir Vale, and probably have to describe the terrain as slightly more temperate than described in the module. That said, if you are willing to put in a little work like that, northeastern Taldor could do the trick. Use Yanmass in place of Bristol. A similar option is far northern Andoran , east of the Five Kings Mountains, near the border with Galt.
I wound up editing a bit of Galt. None of my players care too much for the kingdom itself so editing to say the southern portion was largely ignored by the nation in general due to the geography was believable enough for them. With the Fove King mountains nearby it wouldn't require too much suspension of disbelief to say the Elsir Vale is there. I could also easily say the old kingdom it was a part of was either Cheliax or Taldor if they decide to dig.
