As the Second Darkness iconics have progressed, Amiri's Strength score at Level 12 is now well above 20. And yet, the character description still notes that she "has come to value her oversized sword (even though she can only truly wield it properly when her blood rage takes her)."
How strong does she need to be to wield a large bastard sword?

From what I can tell by reading a character doesn't need a certain strength score (unless the weapon description says otherwise) to wield a large weapon.
So technically someone with a a Str score of 10 or less could wield a large weapon. The only problem they face is the -2 size penality, and of course any encumbrance issues since the weapon wieghs twice as much as a standard one.

How strong does she need to be to wield a large bastard sword?
Yeah; that's flavor text to account for the fact that no matter HOW strong Amiri gets, she'll always have a -2 penalty to attacking with her big sword because it's Large and she's Medium.
When she rages, she gets a +2 bonus on attack rolls from her increased Strength.
It's a flavor way to say "Amiri's -2 penalty is canceled out when she rages by her +2 bonus granted from her higher strength."
