Well I am starting off with a new gaming group and I have been trying to figure which AP to send them through. I have never played with them before but their DM is burnt out and wants to take a break. I'm not sure how much role-playing they do vs. roll playing but I know that they tend to power game much more than I do. I have set down some ground rules already. If I run we start out PHB only, if they can work something else into the storyline I will consider it. They all have some characters they have played until they are beyond godlike. So I also told them that I don't pull punches if they die so be it. The group would be 5 players and I am also thinking of starting them out at "0" level just to set up the story how I want.
What I really want is to see what some opinions are on which AP to start them on. I have everything campaign wise from Paizo that is out right now plus a Red Hand of Doom I modified and ran through once before. Personally I am leaning more towards Crimson Throne just because I like the story.
Anyway to the point what do you all think?

Really anyone of the AP's out now are good. I am running my players through Rise of the Runelords right now and we are having a blast. I wanted to begin the AP's in chronological order because that is just the way I do things. And I also like that some of the NPC's that show up in one AP re-appear in a later adventure path. But I am really itching to run second darkness and I might skip to that next; Although the crimson throne really does have a good story line. You said you group are power gamers, run them through ROTRL or crimson first, as I believe they are a little harder than second darkness.

Rise of the Runelords, if you're willing to err slightly on the "easy" side. Enemies there look tough, but can be taken apart relatively easily, as soon as party uses more complicated tactics than "we charge in". It has inspiring plot, with only a few wallbanger moments (but if you want to run other APs later, be aware, that party, which successfully finished RotRL can probably solve all problems in the two next Golarion adventure paths, that take place geographically close and chronologically later, by snapping their collective fingers, or, if so inclined, take over/burn to the ground the entire country). Also, if needed, you can ramp up the difficulty somewhat, by making enemies react dinamically to PCs presence, like I do. Dungeon APs are brutal and require optimization to survive, but a powergaming party should be OK.
Curse of the Crimson Throne and Second Darkness are decent, but involve serious railroading at times. Second Darkness is also really easy, so it is probably not what you want.

I'd go with Rise of the Runelords. Crimson Throne is an awesome story, but it's not the easiest setting to DM. Runelords is a bit less complicated and easier to steer in the direction you want. I never believed people when they told me how much harder it is to run an urban setting until I tried it. It is an insane amount of work to keep everything straight. Not that it isn't worth it, but you should be aware from the get-go that it's a much bigger time commitment.

PHB only starting out and power gamers? I'd say Age of Worms. Might want to check out Allen Stewarts "Killer Dm runs Age of Worms" thread :)

Yeah, I play differently and I am a right bastard at times. Still I told them how I run and they agreed. Unfortunately I don't have Age of Worms I only caught the final issue of that AP.
