Discussion thread for my Star Wars campaign.

Character Generation
5th level characters
Planned generation using 30 points
30,000 credits for gear plus an additional 5,000 if you provide a detailed background.
Any sourcebooks except Scum and Villiany can be used in building your character. (I don't have Scum and Villany yet)

I dont have the newest rule set, is that saga. I have a core rule book using d20 rules. Will that work for playing? If not I'll pass. If so I have a character in mind for an altered universe. Darth Sidhe {pronounced Shee} the apprentice of Darth Vader who would join with the rebuilding rebels to seek revenge on Luke who killed her master. The enemy of my enemy can be my friend....to a point.

Dark Archive

I'd be interested in playing. I've played with the d20 RCR extensively, but have the Saga edition rulebook and access to a couple of others.

I have a couple of ideas for character concepts, but will tailor them a bit more to the campaign if you can provide a little more guidance in terms of the setting/campaign arc you envision.

d20 and saga are pretty disimilar, but I don't have a problem using d20 for the game. It actually makes things easier for me, because a lotof the material I would be using for this game is in d20 format and would have to be converted to Saga.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

I was interested in a Saga game as I have the Saga rules and wanted very desperately to try them out, but if you are all going d20 I won't ruin anybody's fun. I find that the d20 rules for Force use are pretty crappy and I was wanting to try out a Force-user with Saga.

Still, carry on. :)

Do you have d6 West End? What do you think d6 vs. Saga?

I've never played the d6 WEG version, but a friend of mine who HAS played the d6 version is of the opinion that Saga is a rather substantial improvement. His major critique is that the d6 system allowed a bit more "customization" of Force powers and use, but overall he feels that Saga plays more smoothly and truer to the setting.

In Saga, Force powers are detailed much like spells in 3.5 but with scaling effects based on your 'Use the Force' check. The higher the DC you hit with your check, the more potent your power is. I'm sure that, as more splatbooks become available and add more Force powers to the line-up, Saga will eventually reach a level of diversity that at least minimizes the advantage of the d6 system's customizations.

I didn't want to imply that I wasn't down with Saga -- I am. Just throwing in full-disclosure that I'm not as familiar with it. But I'm excited about trying it out.

There is a conversion guide that may help those who don't have Saga convert d20 characters. Honestly I find Saga to be a vast improvement over d6 or d20 and it seems we have enough interest in Saga to go that route. However I would be happy helping anyone who does not have Saga avalible build a Saga character.

Awesome.

I'll check my book tonight and get specific with a concept.

EDIT: I could go either way on Saga or D20, but I guess I would prefer Saga if only to justify the money I spent on the book a couple of years ago, since I have really only used it once so far. (GenCon 07)

Okay then. I'll be doing a Jedi of some kind. I'll have to get some more information on how you're altering the setting to know how I'll fit in before I anchor anything down.

FYI, the books I have are the Saga Core book, Old Republic Campaign Guide, and the Force Unleashed Campaign Guide.

I'm in, too. Are you wanting characters that fit well into a neo-Rebel group? Do they need ties to the Rebellion as-we-know-it from the film? What time period and region are you thinking of starting the campaign? At this point, I'm thinking of building either an Aleena (little blue-gray, hyperactive guys) pilot/tech specialist or a Near-human or Nagai (are they updated to Saga?) soldier/scout who was a pit-fighter on Nar Shadaa before being freed by the Rebellion ...

I just read the details from the other thread. So, as I understand it, we'll be playing in a post-Ep VI world in which the Emperor has basically been replaced by a 'Dark Luke.' Is the New Jedi Order therefore not extant in this altered universe or has it been started by someone else? Also, have the Yuuzhan Vong been encountered yet?

I kinda want to see what the party composition is going to turn out like, but I'm considering a Jedi on the Sentinel path who is looking to root out the corruption from within the Empire and hunt down the Dark Force users who have helped bring all this wickedness about.

Also, will you be using the rules for character Destinies? If so, are we also able to gain access to the Unleashed feats from Force Unleashed? Thanks!

The Nagi have not been updated for Saga yet. Ties to the rebellion would be good. The campaign starts about two years after the disaster at Endor.

Leia has been trying to put together an new Jedi order, with moderate success. This is to counter Luke's "Imperial Knights" which basicly funcion the same way as the Emperor's Hands did. The Vong have not been encountered yet and I am not sure that they will be. I personally disliked that whole storyline and have yet to decide if I want to incorporate it. Luke's Empire would very likely wipe the floor with them if they did show up.

Damn... I was thinking Jawa Scoundrel or Scout/Tech Specialist, but now that I am looking in the book, Jawa is not a core race. I don't have the other books you mentioned, so I can't verify if it is a race in those.

I found this...

but I am not sure how official it is or whether you will want to allow it.

Saga updated rules for Tech Specialist are given here:

If Madgael is thinking about a pint-sized tech specialist, I'll go with my Near-human idea ... I'm looking through the book, but at this point thinking either a Human (Near-human) or Zabrak, either Scout 3/Soldier 2 or Scout 2/Soldier 3.

I will allow it. The official Jawa stats are in Scum and Villiany, but these seem reasonable. For Tribe of 1 I also found this:

Nagai, which I will also allow.

Edit: Of course anything I allow you to use, I get to use also. Dun, dun, dun.

Awesome. Sorry to jump on the Tech, tribe, but I was trying to think outside my box for this one, and figured Jawa would annoy fellow party members far less than going Ewok or Gungan, as were my other ideas. And going Jawa noble was just too far out of that little box.

Is the 30 points inclusive of the 4th level ability bumps?

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

So before I start making the character I want to

1) Be sure it's okay that I make it in d20 and then convert to saga using the link above. (with GM assistance)

2) Is my concept for a character fine. Scura Forza was an heiress whos family was dedicated to the cause of the empire. Though she didn't have the same prejudice's against non-humans she did have the desire for wealth & power. When the empire selected several young students of academic caliber for a special advancement program her father pulled strings to make sure her name was on the short list. The program turned out to be a selection process the Emperor and Lord Vader were using to find suitable canidates for triaining the darkside of the force. When Scura was detected to have the most latenet talent with the Force she was selected to become Vaders apprentice. Secretly she trained and quickly depveloped her Force powers. Vader gave her the title Darth Sidhe and she vowed to help destroy the rebelion. She was at the Battle of Endor leading an squad of stromtroopers on the moons surface. The fight quickly fell against them with the unanticipated involvement of the Ewoks. When she learned that Luke killed the Emperor and Lord Vader she swore and oath to advenge thier murders and kill Luke Skywalker. In the chaos that surrouded the end of the battle she disguised her self in the unifrom of a fallen rebel and pretended to be a survivor of the fight. She has been living as a member of the rebelion working to disrupt the plans fo the new Emperor Luke and waiting for her chance to come face to face with him. Now that she is out of the shadow of her family and her master she has become conflicted. While all her training leads her on the darkpath she is starting to understand the rebeilions philosophy and she is questioning the things she had been taught.

The charcter build would be Jedi 4/ Soldier 1

One thing to remember is that Jawas will attract attention. While they are not unknown off of Tatooine, they are rare enough that they will stand out.

Edit: Ewoks and Gungans would also stand out.

Quick question:
Zabrak gain a racial ability that allows Perception re-rolls (I'm away from books at the moment so don't have the exact name). There's a Scout Talent that does the same thing.
How do these two abilities interact? Would I get two re-rolls? Could the Zabrak ability count in place of the Scout Talent as a prerequisite? Or is the extra ability wasted?

Also, in terms of equipment, are we allowed to purchase items that have been modified by the Tech Specialist ability? The Web enhancement and Starships of the Galaxy appear to say you can, at double the base cost (which is 10 percent of the item's cost or 1,000 credits, whichever is higher). Also, what about licenses? I'd planned on putting together a suite of everyday, legal equipment and another for combat missions, where legality probably doesn't matter that much anyway.
Finally, any suggestions on how to spend 30,000-35,000 credits? That seems like a lot.

The two do not interact, but I will allow you to use Heightened Awareness in place of Acute Senses for the purposes of prerequisites.

Yese, you are allowed to purchase iteams that have been modified via the Tech Specialist ability. If you do not purchase the liscences for an item, then you must pay the black market cost for it. One change on the credits:

Attention Everyone
I was clearly on crack when I started handing out credits. The actual total should be 6,500 credits, with an additional 1,500 for a background story. I did not have all my material handy when I first typed stuff up and clearly did not remember the proper amount of starting credits for 5th level characters.

I just realized that I loaned my friend my Star Wars books last week for a tabletop game he's going to start running next month. Dammit... there may be a slight delay for me to get my character made. I'm shooting for a Miraluka Jedi 5. That's... about all I've got so far.

Just let me know when you're ready. I'm guessing we won't get started until after Christmas anyway.

Female Human (Near-Human) Soldier 3/Scout 3

Tribeof1 here. I've got my stats and background posted in the profile for this alias - give it a looksee and let me know if everything works.

Male Miraluka Jedi 5

Fatespinner here. Managed to slap something together since I got my books back. Couldn't really find a Miralukan-appropriate avatar, so just ignore the eyes and the pointed ears and you've basically got the character's facial structure at least. :)

Let me know if there's any problems or stuff you need cleared up on the character. I should be all set.

Hey Fatespinner - Looks like you went 2 points over on abilities - you're at 32 points, rather than 30 (I did the same thing the first time through). But you also shorted yourself your 2 bonus feats from Jedi levels 2 and 4.

Hey Fatespinner... nice choice. ;)

Here is my little attempt at something similar.

Damn I wish I hadda seen this thread a little earlier. I woulda liked another SW Saga game ('specially since my other one has been put on hold).

David: My Scum and Villainy is on layby. It was a choice between that or The Pirate King (new Drizzt Hardcover and Drizzt just won out, if only because I should get it read while camping next week). Can't wait to get S&V out.

The only complaint I have with some of the Saga Force powers is that they don't scale properly.

Take Vesper.
Forece Slam at 1st level is abnormally powerful. She took out two Stormtroopers with her 4d6 roll.
Now thin about that same 4d6 when she hits 10th level... not gonna make much of a dent is it. It should scale in damage like some of the other Force Powers do.
I have issue with one or two others as well, but can't think of them off the top of my head and all my RP books now live in the Garage (thanks to a tidy up by my wife) and it is 10.30pm with sleeping kids.

I do think in a lot of areas this Force System is quite good. Own WEG but never played and it's simpler than Revised.

This feels like a dumb question, but I am not sure why exactly.

If I take the Tech Specialist feat in the WotC supplement at character creation, would that allow me to purchase "modified" equipment during my character build at construction cost rather than market value? (I don't have my notes with me, but as far as I can recall, it would work out to modifications on equipment costing 1000cr instead of 2000cr.) The talent tree seems to be mostly on the fly, in-game stuff (which is awesome, no complaints), and the feat seems to be only meant for constructing/altering equipment.

Thanks

Dark Archive

Seeing no response from David, I'd say you're probably cool on that one Madgael. Up-thread he said it was fine for the rest of us to purchase modded equipment at double cost, so you should be able to buy it at regular cost if you're spending the feat for Tech Specialist.

The way I read the rules, the base equiptment is bought at market value and the the "modified" cost is added on top. The only way that you could get around it is if you build the whole piece of equipment from scratch or someone else gives it to you, and then you should explain that in your character story.
