Once the real Pathfinder rules kick in, what's going to happen to our characters from this year? Will we:
1. convert them,
2. create new mid-level characters based on the xp we've gained thus far (basically, re-starting the character and quickly re-advancing her as if she'd been Pathfinder all along), or
3. just create new, 1st-level character and start over?

I guess there will be a lot of changes in the organized play system, resulting in a total restart. I wouldn't mind though.
What has been said is that the characters will be given a one time opertunity to rebuild their character, with the same number and type of levels at the beginning of season 1.

This doesn't sound very good assuming that it means you'll have to rebuild the character using the exact same class levels. Since there are so many changes in the classes this would throw the whole build out of whack. Just as an example: Say you have a Rogue 3/Fighter 2 build that works well in 3.5. Now you'll have to convert this one into a Rogue 3/Fighter 2 in Pathfinder RPG. Turns out that quite a few feats, the whole feat progression, class abilities and whatnot have changed to such an extent that your build end up being complete rubbish whereas a build of say, a Pathfinder Rogue 4/Fighter 1 would be just Awesome. NB: I really have no idea what kind of builds would cause this kind of
problems, I'm just winging it, but I think you'll get the point. If there is a rebuild opportunity of existing characters I'd prefer very loose guidelines that would allow me to rebuild the entire character from the ground up, just as long as the basic idea of the character (say for instance: name, race, concept) remains the same as the original.
No one wants to play a crappy character build. It just plain sucks eggs.

It has been said that there will be a limited time you can use to convert the character to PFRPG.. it has not been stated how long that conversion window will be open however.

I am reasonably confident that you will be required to keep the name of the character and be able rewrite abilities(different race modifiers) and classes(cleric domains, wizard schools, rogue skills are really different).
My real questions would be on the mods that they put out once Year 1 starts. The Year 0 mods seem to be a collection of one shots. I am not getting any flavor of a story arc at all.
I would like to see the following.
1. More detailed notes and favors in the Log Sheet, like LG. Things that can be useful, flavorfull and future story arc related. A plus 2 on a diplomacy check is kinda lame.
2. Story Arcs that take several Mods to progress. So far the mods have been fun and quick (3 hours). Not getting a sense of charater, faction, campaign progression.
3. Mods where the Faction Missions get noted in the Logsheet to get favors and stuff, directly; Not just a faction point.
That being said. I am really looking forward to Beta

This would be my preference as well. Say I've accumulated 14 XP by August or whenever. That means my 3.5 Pathfinder character is 4th level, pretty close to 5th. Now for the switch over, I get to build myself a 4th level character of the same name, race, class (although possibly with different levels if multi-classed).
How about stats? With the new ability bonuses, I might have spent my original point-buy points a little differently. Those ought to be fair game for a slight readjustment.
Ultimately, the before and after should need to get approved by a GM and that's it. If you go off the official XP, what's the worst that is going to happen? Somebody creates a brand new character that starts at 5th or 6th level. Not the end of the world, and a lot more people who've been participating since the beginning get to re-build characters they've grown to like without missing any of the fun, new features of Pathfinder.

Something else comes to mind.
When season 1 starts there will (hopefully) be lots of new players and characters starting at lvl 1. There will also be quite a few converted characters that will be of rather high level (max. 28xp, ergo lvl 10).
My question is this: Will most or all of the season 1 scenarios be multi-tiered for levels ranging from 1-10 or is Paizo going to release both kind of scenarios (low tiers for new characters, high tiers for converted characters)?
I have to say, the more I think about this the more I'm leaning towards a complete reboot from Pathfinder RPG lvl 1. The season 0 characters are essentially playtest characters anyway and would have to be retired anyway after a few months of play (due to the lvl cap of 12).

I look forward not only to continuing high level play with my season 0 character but creating new ones to play the low level adventures that come out at tiers too low for my existing PC. I don't think that we need to retire old characters, we just need to register a second character. I also imagine that we'll see scenarios of all tiers start to come out all the time instead of ramping up from 1-5 to 7-11 like we've seen over the course of season 0.

There will not be a reboot of the entire system. Negating a full year of play would do more to hurt our system then help it. New players coming into PFS with PRPG next August can also run any of the season 0 scenarios using the PRPG rules. The design goal of backward compatibility should make it relatively easy to run season 0 scenarios under the new rule set.

Since it is basic rules to basic rules the conversion is a good option. Keep Pathfinder Society characters in the basic rules plus items from adventures and it will work well. Living Greyhawk often suffered from added books with new feats, spells, and magic items that made conversion impossible after a point. The hardest thing will be if a player has magic items that have changed.
