This has been a discussion point on the boards before, but I can't seem to find it searching the threads.
We've been dutifully adding up experience points through chapters 1-4, and my players just humbly suggested that maybe I could just tell them when to level. Make it simpler for everybody.
Does anyone remember, or know when characters ought to be leveling in Chapters 5 and 6?
Assume they start Chapter 5 at the default 12th level.

Halfway through.
That's the easy answer. Once you're halfway through chapter 5, bump them up a level. When they finish, do it again. We give each encounter an EL score for precisely this type of thing, also; when you see the ELs creeping up above the average party level, that's a good point to bump them up as well.

You mean the modules?
For a group of 4 PC's, it went something like this for me:
Dunno if this count as a spoiler or not, so just in case:
Burnt Offerings
L2: during the Catacombs of Wrath
L3: early during Thisletop
L4: after clearing level 1 of Thistletop
The Skinsaw Murders
L5: after clearing the Hambley Farm
L6: after Foxglove Manor
L7: after the Seven's Sawmill
The Hook Mountain Massacre
L8: After the Graul Farmstead
L9: After Fort Rannick (they had NPC's with them so here the XP progression went a bit slower)
L10: After the Kreeg Clanhold
Fortress of the Stone Giants
L11: Just before entering the valley of Jorgenfist (i.e. after defeating the encounters on the Storval Plateau)
L12: After level 1 of Jorgenfist (they had NPC's with them so here the XP progression went a bit slower)
Sins of the Saviors:
L13: After killing Arkhryst
L14: After doing the wings of Greed, Wrath, Pride and Lust
That's where we are at the moment. I expect they'll probably hit L15 after the Vekker cabin in Spires of Xin-Shalast. And if they decide to go on a rampage in Xin-Shalast, they could easily gain enough XP to hit L16, (maybe even more?) since there are so many enemies in there.
