Catacombs of Wrath

Rise of the Runelords

I'm a bit confused about the map for the Catacombs of Wrath

Spoiler:
The text talks about the smugglers breaking into the catacombs some 40 years ago, and then bricking it up after being attacked by Erylium. This meant that Erylium was still trapped within the catacombs at that point. Nualia then re-opened the catacombs around 5 years ago.

Looking at the map, it appears as though there are two other entrances into the Catacombs - a tunnel into B3 and a tunnel into B6, although the latter also has a dotted line at the end suggesting the tunnel is a dead end. So are there three entrances to the Catacombs or only the one opened by Nualia?

Can anyone help me with this?

Many thanks

I believe that this matter has already been addressed (along with various other Burnt Offerings related material) somewhere on the semi-official 'reference' thread for Burnt Offerings; you will find that thread here: *link*

Hope this helps:

Spoiler:
I think the bricked part isn't on the map. According to pg. 24, the wall had been bricked over where the tunnel to the CoW branches off the main tunnel. What we see on the map is the last part of this branch.

Wormy's right. The bricked over area is off the map; it's where the tunnel to the Catacombs veers off from the main tunnel that runs under town.

I.m.h.o

B6 I believe actually shows the tunnel ending in the little room, not as a dead end. The reason for the dots I think is to show that it doesn't go straight into the room, but rather is like a hole in the cells ceiling.

Spoiler:
As you can see by the levels, the walkway in the cell room is above the cells so therefore if the tunnels are level (with no gradients) then the tunnel WILL end as a hole in the floor of the tunnel which should enter into the top area of the cell. (So the characters will have to climb down from the tunnel into the cell.)

Thanks for the swift respones everyone, much appreciated!

It all makes perfect sense now! :o)

So it definitely is a hole in the cell's ceiling, and not a hole in the floor where someone has dug out?
