Modern Town in a Fantasy World

(sorry if this is a double post but it didn't let me do it before)
The campaign I'm planning is about a modern small city/large town magically transported to a D&D world. Upon arrival the dead begin to walk (because they are not magically restrained) and chaos of various kinds ensues. The main plot stuff I'm still working on but to start with I had a few practical questions I was hoping could be answered such as:

1. Would water/power be cut off? And what kind of emergency sources on a large scale would exist?

2. What about communications? How would they be maintained? What problems would crop up?

3. How much fuel and food, etc need to be transported weekly to a small to medium sized city?

If anyone can think of other obvious problems please let me know...

OK not an expert but her goes

1..yes most city/towns run off electric pumps/ be a few reservoirs most outside the city. may be a pond or something.

2.well no electricity so you got word of mouth /hand signals flags..and so on

3. without outside food you'll run out in 2 to 3 weeks tops. some will be horded but 80% will be gone within 3 weeks. as for fuel well cars and such will cause it to run out fast, your looking 1 to 2 weeks without consureving it

no alot depends on the town size and population. I would recommend you read dies the fire by s.m striling . you'll find tones of useful info for most of what you are trying to do. also a few things.

does gunpoweder still work?
does stored electricity still function?

Sovereign Court

Other items to consider

1)What is the reaction of the locals to this strange city appearing in their midst.

2) Do some inhabitants suddenly develop Magical powers..and what is the reaction of their clergy to that.

If you are looking for some interesting takes on a town hitting a past era (not magical, but there are a lot of similarities) Try this site: 1632.org the official site of Eric Flint's string of books about a W. Va. mining town that gets sucked back to the Hundred Years War in Germany (In of course 1632). A good series of adventure novels as well.

Water would be lost if it was coming via aqueducts. Power would last for a few days until the diesel ran out. Hospitals have a few weeks of supplies, plus their own generators. Police stations would mobilize as well as they could. There would be some deserters, and extortion.

Instanly all cell phones would lose communications with their satellites. Non-local radio and television would be interrupted. The others would last until the diesel ran out. ATMs would be off-line, with ensuing chaos. Causing riots.

Massive amounts. But, after the transportation, there would be mass panic, riots would ensue and massive looting would occur.

Riots. Now throw in an orc raiding party, or possibly a hill giant comes to investigate the shiny castles.

At least 20% of the people would probably be at churches praying. Say 5% of the people are clear thinkers, they assess the situation and react quickly, hoarding guns, and fuel, and finding safe places, or fleeing in Off-road vehicles. Much of the population would be stunned for a few days...unable to deal with the change. There would also be a lot of suicides from people with fractured minds.

If there was a military command in the city, they might try to mobilize martial law, possibly setting themselves up as a dictatorial state.

You totally got me thinking about this now...

Man I might run something like this.
