When I started running Rise of the Runelords I had the feeling that something about it felt familiar somehow. I know that the base plot has many familiar elements to fantasy. However there was something about the rise of the runelord, combined with the about of time that he was trapped.

Then I remembered where I saw it before. The first twelve seconds really. :P

Yeah, they're probably not the only ones. "The Sealed Evil in a Can rises after some round number of millennia and tries to conquer whatever world the story is set on" has been done a lot. It's the original traits to each story that make them unique.

It just popped into my head, and I thought that it was held for three thousand years, so I just searched for it for old times sake. When it said ten thousand years, I was a little surprised and jovial.

Yeah, it is a funny comparison. When my players first see Karzoug, I think I'll pull out a printed image from the video and tell them it's him, look at it, say "oops, wrong generic villain," then show them the right one.
