Language question

The guide states that the characters are made using the PHB. A human gets one language (Common). Suppose a human character with average or less intelligence from Osirion. If going by the PHB, he will speak Common, but not his native tongue (Osiriani) at all, which seems a bit wonky to me. The sidebar on p. 7 of the Guide seems to imply that said Osirian speaks Osiriani, not Common as his only language. Which one is correct?

I asked this very same question to one of the judges at GenCon; he told me to take both the native language and common, in order to avoid any difficulties. I'm not saying this is the official ruling (Nick or someone would have to speak up about that), but it's the most sensible course for now.

Can we get an official ruling on this one, please? I'm planning to spend starting languages on taking all the human tongues to fit in with the Qadirian focus on trade, and I need to know how many slots that will cost me.

All Pathfinder Society characters begin with Common. The sidebar is there as a reference.

The current version of the "Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play"does not clarify if human characters start with their regional language or if they need to "buy" it either with Intelligence or with Linquistics.

In order to speak any regional dialects, characters need to spend a point in Linguistics even if they are "from" that region.

I had heard that, but it is not spelled out in the Guide. So, I wanted to get confirmation.

For the sake of ease of play, all Pathfinders in Pathfinder Society start speaking Common (as do they in the Core Rulebook). If you have a low Int score, then yes, you have to spend ranks in Linguistics to get your "native" tongue.

Thank You.

This needs to get into an update to the Guide.

Yes, but as Josh also said earlier today, that is only how it is until it is officially printed differently in a Golarion sourcebook. This will change when the new Inner Sea book comes out in Feb, and may even change when the Inner Sea Primer comes out in November, if that book covers languages.
