Are multiple characters allowed?

Or just one?

Just a common-sense guess:

I'm assuming multiple characters are allowed. Otherwise, if I'm playing in a home campaign with a 4th-Level character, and want to play with two or three other people who are just starting characters, we wouldn't be able to form a coherent party.

But I've been wrong before.

If we can create multiple characters, (a) do they need to be in the same faction? (b) how do the messageboards handle that?

This was covered in the guide book.

You can have multiple characters but progression will be slow. Each player can only play each scenario once--so that means anything you play with your first character cannot be played with your 2nd, 3rd, etc.

If you have multiple characters, there are no restrictions on factions.

Thanks Josh.

(I have items in my "shopping cart" that I'm waiting to afford. Until the weekend, I can't "checkout" and download the Pathfinder Society Guide. Sigh.)

For my money, "progression" is a hobgoblin. My 6th-Level character certainly wants to get more powerful, but as a player, I honestly couldn't care less. Playing at 8th Level isn't any more fun than playing at 4th.

The concern about factions was principally focused on the website. It'd be weird to be posting in-character as a Chelexian with the Taldor symbol next to my character's name.

Well, there is one advantage of progessing. If you have a 9th level character and a 1st level character, then you can participate in high-level Pathfinder Society scenarios (once there are some) as well as low-level ones. If you only have a 3rd level character and a 1st level character, you won't have as many opportunities to play (since you can only play each low-level scenario once).

Heya, Hogarth.

I'm presuming there's going to be enough low-level adventures to supply multiple characters.

Otherwise, what would you do in the campaign when, say, your 5th-Level Monk dies unrecoverably?

Good point, but if playing multiple low-level characters is good, then playing multiple low-level characters PLUS a high-level character is even better. :-)

(As if I had that much time to play in tabletop games...)

I thought I had read that there would be about enough XP in the games put out to reach about 10th level in the first year.

To be specific, they mentioned 28 scenarios per year. But those scenarios will eventually be split between low-level and high-level scenarios, I imagine. Maybe 20 "low" (1-5) and 8 "high" (6-11), say (just pulling a number out of thin air).

You can register multiple PFS characters on the website and set each character's faction individually, so it's fine for posting in character, just need to make sure you post as the correct PFS char alias :).
