I have to say, that even though this is from EA, Mirror's Edge is looking like the best game of 2008. About time we had an original idea in gaming. First Person Free Running and Martial Arts? Awesome!
Even better is the fact that according to the developers, it's possible to win the game without firing a shot. Certainly rare to see these days.

This does look really good, can't wait to give it a try. I like seeing designers try out new ideas, and this game seems to have new ideas in spades!

I've been burning for this game for a while now.
Some have likened the design aesthetic to Portal and the gameplay to being the unusually well-formed offspring of Out of this World/Another World and Sonic the Hedgehog. That seems like crazy talk at first until you see what they're getting at, with the importance of forward momentum and focus on maintaining smooth motion.
The one bit I'm worried about is first person melee, but I haven't seen enough of it to really guess at how it will work. While it was done pretty convincingly in Condemned, that style wouldn't work in this game at all where it seems a more graceful style is called for.

I think it focuses mostly on not having to fight because you're 50 miles away before the guy draws his gun. Combat isn't really intended to be very significant, from what I've seen. But yeah, I see what you're talking about.

This actually brings the idea of "hit and run" fighting to mind. I really like that notion.

The parkour stuff is very cool, but the hand-to-hand combat is a bit ridiculous. You're somehow running at, disarming and disabling storm troopers with assault rifles and body armour...while playing a waif-like asian teenager. Sure.
But the sunny outdoor environments are certainly striking and refreshing.
