Okay what's up with K9?

Television

Hey everyone just saw the big ending for series 4 of Dr. Who it was great but I also saw a cameo by none other then K9, one of my beloved old favs but I had a question.

I've seen a few episodes of Sara Jane advantures, which isn't bad but aimed more for younger viewers, but in any case the show never seems to use K9 though he seems to still be owned by her, guess I'm wondering is K9 a character on the show or not? Looks like the Sci-Fi here in the US isn't goning to support the show anymore so I was just wondering.

Also in general any good K9 fan sights out there, I think he deserves are love.

Like the Daleks, K9 is not owned by the creators of Dr Who so there are legal issues to work out before they can get the go ahead to use them. K9's creators are looking to produce their own cartoon series or something like that if the rumours are true.

Interesting factoid: Terry Nation creator of the Daleks was going to use them as the big bad in his other cult sci-fi creation Blake 7. :)

Sarah Jane Adventures Spoiler

Spoiler:

In the Sarah Jane Adventures, K-9 is only shown a few times, and is explained off as floating in space holding back I think a Black Hole from expanding and destroying the universe..

Not sure about the black hole bit.. but it is something he is holding back.. Not sure if the explain well how he is doing it.
He makes a few cameos on the show.

Thanks for the info both of you.

But what do you mean the Daleks are not owned by Dr. Who? I mean they've never been in anything else, lest no where else that I know. Nor has K9, though I think he did have his own spin-off back in the 70's, never saw it here in the USA though.

As for K9 off holding a black hole that sorta makes sense, not the black whole part but not using him much. From what I've seen of Sara Jane show he'd be a bit too powerful.

Thanks again for the info.

Terry Nation had a very good agent, and was able to negotiate for all rights to the Daleks -- the Beeb actually has to pay a license to his estate and credit him as the creator each time they use the Daleks, something they do cheerfully (albeit sparingly) as the Daleks are iconic antagonists for the Doctor.

Yeah -- "K9 and Company" back in 1981, where it was established that the Fourth Doctor had indeed given Sarah Jane the Mark III K9 as a gift. As far as I can tell, Nation's being able to pry the rights to the Daleks created a precedent for other creators for the show -- K9's rights are also held mostly by its creator, Bob Baker. (This is why when the K9 animated cartoon starts, Sarah Jane Smith, the Doctor and other Doctor Who characters will not be appearing.)

Throw enough Daleks at him, and we'll see who's chewing whom... ;)

Of course, we could also see how he handles a Rust Monster ;) :D ...

Pat Payne:
I'm fairly certain that that alien renegade has also been a 'head of state' during the Tom Baker years. :D

And Mickey had a lot of growing up time

Spoiler:
fighting the cybermen in the alternate reality. Loved how Jack called him Mickey Mouse.
Also glad I did some resaerch about Sarah Jane's "son." I was thinking that with him being 14 and all that would mean he was born about 9 months after the last time she saw the Doctor.
Spoiler:
I feel a little jipped that he's not the Doctor's son
