Anyone know how the rules are on this?...

The rules (and the whole game setting, infact) are quite similar to the stuff White Wolf puts out.

The actual mechanics are based on stats and skills. Stats are a number ranging from 1-> averaging at around 4-7 for human player characters. The skills range from 1-> where 1 is novice and 3 is adept. Task resolution works like this: The skill points are the number of d10-dice you roll. The highest number rolled is added to the stat you are using. If your roll doubles, triples (or even quadruples), you add all the dice together and add that to the stat. If you roll a straight of 3 or more dice, you add those together and add that to the stat. This is then compared to the difficulty of the roll (set by GM or a static defense value, for instance).

All in all the system is quite easy to grasp and fluid enough for a narrativist player while not snubbing the gamist player completely.

Oh, by the way. Is this the new edition with black & white interior art or the out of print first edition with color interior art?

All the copies we're getting now should be the new edition (with the binding that doesn't fall apart).

Just got an e-mail saying that my copy has shipped from the warehouse.

Though I doubt I'll play a game anytime soon, I'm looking forward to checking this out. Should be a good read.

Anyone else getting this?

Ah, I see I wasn't alone in this then (bought it the week it was finally released). Yep, pages all fell out and three ringed now.

It's really three games in one depending on what you want to play. You can play a mecha game, a tager (wierd human/other world alien hybrids game, or an investigator (normal human) game. The three games don't cross over one another too well because they are vastly different power levels. Tagers trump humans and mecha trump EVERYTHING!

I have played in a tager scenario (lots of fun) and ran some mecha scenarios from the book. I enjoyed it more than that old Robotech system thats for sure.

Scarab Sages

I'm interested, actually.

How's the Mythos treatment as it pertains to the background/futuristic era? Is it cool? Original? Sketchy? Very detailed?

How good are the ideas?
Are there adventures included?
How would you describe the game's ambiance? Horror? Battletech? Paranoid? Investigative? Fight?
How's the game overall?

Should I buy this?

I managed to snag a copy of the Catalyst Design edition of the book (the full color one) along with the color edition of one of the expansions, and both books are amazing. I will be surprised if the core book isn't up for an Ennie next year.
