Can someone provide a bit more info on this line?
Are they linked specifically to the current Adventure Path at that time?
Are they part of the Adventure Path subscription?
If not, can they be ordered as a seperate subscription? or are they purchased individually???
And just to make sure I didn't miss any; there's only one released so far (and it is for the Second Darkness?) There werent' any released during RotRL or CotCT?
Thanks.

I believe that the pathfinder companion for second darkness is essentially going to be a stepped up version of the players guides from the previous two APs, basically a whole lot of information about the region and locations that are important to the AP, along with some starting traits that are going to be similar to the idea of free level 1 feats but are background oriented.
So its -very- useful for the AP, but can be used by anyone who wants to either make use of the traits or campaign around riddleport or the darklands.
As for the ones after it, I believe that most of the lineup they have announced are not campaign specific at all. Elves, gods, ect.

With six Companions released per calendar year (bi-monthly, alternating with the Modules) there are thus three issues per AP. At the same time any new AP starts, that month's Companion will be the player's guide for that campaign. The one of the other two will be a racial book, such as Elves of Golarion, and the third during said AP will be a location book like Osirion, Land of Pharaohs or Taldor--Echoes of Glory. So only the every third book in the series will link directly to an AP, while the others might have some application, but not nearly as much.
Are they part of the Adventure Path subscription?
For the first issue, the Companion to Second Darkness, it will be provided free along with any AP subscription. If you have a subscription to both the APs and Companions, you will receive only one copy, and it will be free.
If not, can they be ordered as a seperate subscription? or are they purchased individually???
One can purchase them piecemeal like any other product or you can subscribe to the Pathfinder Companions line, similar to having an AP, Modules or Chronicles subscription.

The line is debuting next month with Second Darkness. The previous two paths had similar free Player's Guides, but they were not part of any specific product line.

Every third Pathfinder Companion will be a player's guide to the Adventure Path that's starting the same month. The other four Pathfinder Companions each year will present player info on a different topic that applies to Golarion as a whole. These additional topics will generally be ones that indirectly support the current Adventure Path or a recent module. The info in ALL of them should remain applicable to ANY character that comes from Golarion, though. There's no reason you can't use a feat from the "Player's Guide to Second Darkness" 6 years from now for a character created for a new module set in Brevoy.

They are not.

They can be purchased individually OR via a Pathfinder Companion subscription. I believe that we'll be giving out a PDF of the Second Darkness player's guide for free with a subscription to the Adventure Path too... but my memory's a tad hazy there...

The first 32-page Pathfinder Companion is indeed the Second Darkness Player's Guide. We DID release 16-page player's guides for the previous two Adventure Paths, though, and the information in them is pretty similar in theme to what we'll be putting into the Pathfinder Companions.

Alright - thank you guys for giving me the 411 on it all.
That being said - I must be missing something: I of course would like to subscribe to the companions line - but when I went to the subscriptions page, I dont see that as an option.... ?

I think that worked this time - thanks.
Earilier when I clicked on it to add it to the care - it just added it a la carte - not as a subscription.
Thanks again, folks.

I'm pretty confident you are remembering correctly. That is true for this one time.. because the company is transitioning from Free Player's Guides to this new Companion format. Erik has implied that they want the change to go smoothly, and no one feeling hard done by as a result.
The next AP after Second Darkness, however, will have the Companion / Player's Guide be an item which is purchasable by everyone (not free).
It's also been asked that if you subscribe to the Companions line from the start, and subscribe to Pathfinder will you get two copies of Second Darkness Player's Guide. The answer per Vic Wertz is no. You only get one, but you won't be charged for it. Otherwise you could have two but would need to pay for one of them, and they felt *as the default* that the majority of people would just want their one free copy.

If Wes has its way... it'll be the one that sees the triumphant return of the carbuncle to the game.
