Waiting to see what the final word on the money split is so I can pick out a spell to learn. Otherwise I think I'm ready to move out.

Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

As the two "adventurers" are obviously up for some action, Proteus asks them a little about themselves and then fills them in on their journey's thus far. Specifically mentioning the man who they are searching for and the strange references to "He-Who-Sleeps." If they continue to express an interest in adventuring he will somberly explain that the path is dangerous and then inquire if Brother Beamus considers himself to be secure enough to allow them to travel with the group.

As the conversation winds down, he invites the two to accompany him to meet the rest of the group, explaining that obviously it must be a group decision to have them join the Agents of Orange.

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
After way overthinking the split last time, we are going for no thinking this time. What we keep is not included in the monetary split at all. What we sell is. Some of the things we keep, we're not even doling out, just carrying as party goods.

You're coming out ahead in the split, I'm sure. Don't feel guilty - everyone else approved it before you said anything.

Roylenna would like to inquire about some scrolls at the Academy again, but I'm waiting, also, to make sure all four of us are on board with the split. I can retcon the scroll purchasing, if you want to move on, if BT is happy with that.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Proteus:

Spoiler:
Beamus knows nothing about He-who-sleeps, but Melchior or the Academy might know more.

Beamus is confident that he can spare you. He asks Vladoff to come around now and then, and hopes that he will be enough to deter the hooligans. Probably just some bored teenagers anyway.

Will you be going back to continue your search for Fenton, or do you want to clear out the undead cave?

Chris is ready to fight evil, although he is not sure how, and danger in no problem. He wants to be a hero and prove he has chosen the right path.

One more time with the treasure:

Spoiler:
Doh! Ka'kara, you are right, I wasn't remembering my own notes. To be absolutely clear, here's the proposed split for your approval. To address a concern voiced by Ka'kara, I've rounded the cash in Sandros' favor so he has some spending money. Neither of the girls is worried about collecting on their IOUs yet.

Sandros

  • Light masterwork mace
  • Vellum & Ink
  • 106 gp, 4 sp, 5 cp

    Proteus

  • Ring of Resistance +1
  • Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds
  • 380 gp

    Ka'kara

  • Potion of Bear's Endurance
  • Brooch of Elvenkind
  • 380 gp

    Roylenna

  • Alchemist's Fire (3)
  • Wand of Silent Image (? charges)
  • 320 gp
  • BT:

    Spoiler:
    Shopping list:

  • Scroll of Sleep (25 gp)
  • Scroll of Hold Portal (25 gp)
  • Scroll of Ray of Enfeeblement (25 gp)
  • Scroll of Detect Poison (12.5 gp)
  • Scroll of Detect Poison (12.5 gp)
  • Scroll of Summon Monster I (25 gp)
  • Scroll of Hypnotism (25 gp)

Would she be able to keep the 3 moonstones and one of the silver rings for lighter, more portable wealth of 165 gp and just keep 5 gp in cash?

  • Male Dwarf Rogue 5

My name is Mahaffy . I'm a indoor scout . The place you describe seem interesting . Count me in. ehrr ... How do you allocate the plunder ?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

    Roylenna:

    Spoiler:
You can get all those scrolls easily.

As you make your way back to the dungeon, I'd be interested in your marching order and whether you'd want to buy horses or not. Your journey is uneventful as far as the Roadside Inn.

    Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

BT, I am going to purchase 4 CLW potions at level 1. That should be 200 gp which I will subtract from my take on the split. I am not going to worry about the 10% discount as I know it's going to a good cause. ;)

    Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara is going to ask Sandros to help her fine a greatsword to buy (MW Greatsword). She will then give 80 gp to Proteus for more 'healing salves' as she calls them.

    Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

I'm going to take that to mean we have a consensus on the treasure split, so I've incorporated my take into Roylenna's character sheet. Note that we have items from the last treasure split that were never claimed. They are a potion of Cat's Grace, a potion of Protection from Evil, and a Sunrod. I forgot I had them, I assume everyone else did as well. If someone would like to carry them, just speak up.

After Roylenna and Sandros go by the Academy to get the items identified, she requests some scrolls to be picked up later. In the meantime, she tells Sandros that she is headed to the temple to aid Proteus and Father Beamus while she can.

    BT and Proteus:

    Spoiler:
When arrives at the temple, she hands Proteus a small bag of coins. "Can you see that the good father gets these? 30 gp Is there anything I can do to help today?" You know, if you were able to cast Detect Good, we'd know who can benefit from my Heavenly Fire. I still have this fear that I'll kill some peasant with an attitude trying to heal him.

She'll remain in the temple for the duration of her stay in town other than trips to buy or sell items.

Over the course of the time in the temple, she will speaking to the prospective new adventurers, "Mahaffy, is it? What exactly does an 'indoor scout' do? As for plunder, we don't see a lot, but we try to divide it evenly -- or at least get a consensus from everyone before we split anything. If you come along, I expect you will get your share - but you will work for it, too, I imagine."

And, "Chris, it could be dangerous. You may not be concerned, but I am. What would you do if confronted by danger, say a hostile tribe of monsters?"

And, "I have a gift that has been useful to us in the crypts, but it can be bane or boon, depending on who receives it. If you will travel with us, I need to know whether it will help you or hurt you. Would you allow me to try it on you now, when there is no threat? I don't want to find out in the heat of battle that my attempt to heal you has hurt you further than you were already. I really don't know how to tell if someone will benefit from it without just trying it, so I ask..."

Chris and Mahaffy (and anyone that cares to observe):

    Spoiler:
By the way, Roylenna is a wee slip of a halfling with unusually pale coloring including an amazing head of white or white-blonde hair that looks like it should double her weight - and maybe her height.

She won't test you together, so these will take place at different times for each of you.

If you agree to her test, Roylenna leads you to a somewhat private place -- somewhere outside the primary public areas -- and bids you to hold your left hand out where she can reach it. She holds her hands in front of her and concentrates for a moment. You see a light begin to form in her cupped palms, becoming a handful of green flame that gives off no heat. She 'splashes' the fire onto the back of your hand. As the flame strikes your skin, it takes on a deep emerald hue not unlike her eyes, actually. You feel a warm tingling sensation for just a moment and a sense of it being right.

The halfling watches your reaction with some concern, "Tell me -- how did the flame feel as it struck your hand?" She looks at your hand carefully, "You don't appear to be burned, which is good, but how did it feel?"

    Male Dwarf Rogue 5

" Well , I can scout in the dark to discover and eliminate monsters , traps and closed doors before they attack . Very dangerous, closed doors . You need to know where they are before you come upon them :)
Now , I will do my part of course . Do you have a battle leader ?
Because I heard humans adventurers don't have them sometimes. I don't really know about halflings but it fells good to have someone shorter than me in the group , shorty jokes are a bore ... . It's not a problem , I can adapt to others races pecularities of course . After all , I left the clan to discover the vast world!
What kind of hurt are you speaking of ? Can Father Beamus remove it if it does not work ? Because if so , I would prefer him to be here . not that I don't trust you but who knows what can happen ?
Crypts ? No one spoke of crypts before ... do you mean the sort of crypts where corpses don't know they are supposed to be inside the tombs , not moving around and attacking perfectly peaceful tourists ? "

Sandros picks up magic missile, which should basically cost him 100 gp (50 for the spell copying cost, 50 for the writing costs at 50% off since he's duplicating an existing spellbook). He is now prepared.

Sandros chuckles at Mahaffy's concern. "It only stings a little, but Proteus or the good father should be able to help you if you need it."

"Oh, don't worry - I can remove it if need be. But now is the time to find out, not in the midst of combat. And it's something that seems to only help on occasion, not every time it's a daily use for healing, so we kind of use it for emergencies, you know."

"I guess Sandros or Ka'kara would be our battle leader. I've never really thought of it."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As you go you merry way, you come across a large and badly written placard that says: "Pay the tol or feed the trol." There is a small pot before it with a few gold coins in it. There is no troll in sight, though.

    Male Dwarf Rogue 5

    Mahaffy smiles seeing this .
    " So shall we pay ? "

    Mahaffy wrote:

"Pay? We haven't even seen the troll yet! It's one thing to charge admission, but you have to provide the audience with some expectations, to whet their appetites! He's obviously never worked a halfling wagon train, let me tell you."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Suddenly you hear a great crash from your right and a huge green creature appears. It's extremely ugly, with a mop of black hair and huge teeth pointing in all directions. It stares at you with button-like expressionless black eyes, then scratches its belly lazily and makes an indefinite gestures towards the pot.

In case you're wondering, it's about 40 feet away from you.

    Male Dwarf Rogue 5

    Spoiler:
    What the ?

    Mahaffy looks to Kaka'ra ....
    'Orders ? '

    Female Human Barbarian 7

    Sorry all, been busy.

Ka'kara looks the green monstrousity over and runs her fingers unconsiously over the handle of her new greatsword clearly contemplating whether this should be the first creature she tests it's blade on when Mahaffy's words hit her, "Orders?" She shakes her head, "No, I have not yet earned the right to be chieftaness of this tribe." She than looks back toward the 'trol', "Do you normally pay to cross bridges in these lands?"

Sandros glares at the troll, but he murmurs, "We have taken peaceful means out of fights before this; I am not sure we should change that policy now. Together we might well be able to defeat this monster, but not without cost."

    Male Dwarf Rogue 5

"Ok War Leader ! We'll let the diplomat speak ! "
    Looking at Roylenna:
"Go for it, miss ! "

    Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

    OK, here goes!

    In Giant:

    Spoiler:

"Hello! Are you a real troll? I've never seen a troll before! Are you new here? What's your name? What do trolls eat?"

It's an untrained +3 if you need to roll for me, BT. I figured I hadn't tried anything yet, so it wouldn't be needed yet.

Really need to invest some ranks in diplomacy. Really, really, really.

The troll looks bemused and replies (in Giant):

    Spoiler:
"Why yes, me real troll. My name is Nix and I eat nosy little people. Now put shiny coins in pot so I can go back to my nap."

    Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna speaks low to Sandros and the others. "He doesn't seem particular about coinage. We might be able to get by with coppers, if it comes to that..."

    In Giant:

    Spoiler:
"Nosy little people? You mean me? I would hardly be an appetizer for one so large and powerful as you. Besides, from what I've heard of trolls, you would find me hard to digest, what with the fire in my veins and all." She holds up her hand to display a bit of her 'green fire,' "I'm told that I have unusual ancestry, so I have this gift. Or curse, as it may be."

    Bluff 1d20+8=16

She dismisses the fire. "But I'd rather make friends than fight. My friends here would just as soon continue down the road. I'm sure you will find other willing contributors to your toll gate."

The troll stares thoughtfully at Roylenna. In Giant:

    Spoiler:
"Yeah, people like you give me gas. Just pay the toll and get on your way. You all look skinny anyway. No good eating on the likes of you."

    Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna turns to her companions and says quietly, "I don't know if he speaks Common." And then more loudly, "he doesn't feel like eating us, just wants us to pay the toll and move on."

Am I correct in thinking this is a road we've been on before? I'm afraid I'm a touch lost as to whether we've been past this point previously or not.

But the next traveller migh be broke.

So we leave the troll to kill the the next traveller?
I don't find it heroic and I don't like it.

Yes, you've been here before. You're in hex 0602.

I'll wait to see what the rest of the group thinks.

    "I agree."

    Female Human Barbarian 7

Ka'kara nods in agreement, "I'm afraid I have a tendency to react violently to bullies and thieves." A smirk crossing her face, "Surprising, I know." Pulling her blade from it's sheath, she points it at the troll and in a raised voice, "We will pay no toll. Stand aside or we shall be forced to cut you down."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The troll shakes his head, then abruptly raises it and bellows [in Giant]

    Spoiler:
    "Knax! Trouble!"

Oh, well. Time to roll for initiative, then.

    Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

"It would seem there is at least one more," Proteus says to the rest of the group.

    Initiative (1d20=5)

    Female Human Barbarian 7

    Initiative: 1d20=9

The troll goes on 21, but after Chris. Let's see if Roylenna and Mahaffy can beat that.

    Init 22

No troll is going to be as fast as a dwarf ...

    In Giant:

    Spoiler:
"You'd be better off to just walk away."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Mahaffy and Chris then. We'll see if we can't do this without a map. You should be able to close in a single move if you have a mind to it.

    Male Human Druid 2

Unless someone tells him to cool down:
Chris casts Magic Fang on Robin and then instruct Robin to attack.
    Handle animal roll: 1d20+7=10
    Wolf dodge and attacks: 1d20+6=7

    Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Hot Damn ! take this , you giant !
    Heavy crossbow 9 , damage 1
    or not ...

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Robin charges the troll as Mahaffy's bolt goes wide. Almost absent-mindedly the troll picks up the furious wolf and bites it. 14 points of damage. In Giant:

    Spoiler:
    "Hmm, tasty.

    You're all up.

...and we're back. Sorry all, it's been a busy weekend.

I'll run this combat loosely, so I'll give you the benefit of doubt when it comes to flanking and so on.

    Male Human (Alryan) Cleric 3

Proteus speaks the words, "Benedictus Asclepius." Bless for everyone.

    Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

So, does a troll regenerate untyped holy damage or it is like fire damage?

Roylenna stamps her tiny foot and says in Giant,

    Spoiler:
    "Put him back down!"

She turns toward the barbarian and says, "Quem augeo!" And the woman grows to a tremendous height.

How far is Roylenna from the visible troll? Does she hear any sign of a second foe yet? We don't know if there is a second and we don't know if it's a troll yet. I can continue to hope it was talking to its pet parrot.

I'll consider Roylenna's holy fire as fire for the purposes of regeneration. She is about 30 feet away (I guess) and you can roll a Perception check to hear if there is anything approaching - as can anyone who likes.

    Female Human Barbarian 7

Inspired by the savagery of the wolf in the face of such a deadly adversary Ka'kara gets a feral grin of her own, "Let's take this thing down quickly." Screaming a Tharbrian battle-cry she flies into her rage, charges, and slices into the green monstrosity, her new blade flashing in the sunlight.

    Rage+SurpriseAccuracy+Bless+Charge: 1d20+13=21, 2d8+18=29

I know I am going to regret this...

EDIT:Whoops, forgot the Enlarge gives her +2 additional strength. So that would be 31 damage instead of 29.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The troll stumbles backwards under Ka'kara's furious attack. Green blood spurts from a gaping wound that slowly closes.

Sandros, Mahaffy and Chris are up.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

OK, to keep this moving, would someone please post for Sandros? I trust Mahaffy and Chris to be able to post for themselves.
