With a serious look, "Exactly. It's spirit is restless." Breaking a smile again despite her bloody and ragged appearance as she looks up and winks at Roylenna, "No worries, I would have done the same thing."

Your journey to Warwik is uneventful (unless you want to pick a fight or go exploring on the way). Feel free to visit any friends or locations you want, or pick up some supplies. You could probably get the amulet and any other stuff you're wondering about identified at the Academy or the Temple of the Moon, if you like. Most things you can afford are easy to find.
You might even find a couple of new friends, too...

Roylenna basically skips all the way to town, happy as she is to be in fresh air and sunlight. The only cloud on her sunny disposition is the occasional thought of those that are not with the party anymore, especially Rana.
"I'd like to find out what this necklace is. It must be important to protect it with a skeleton like that." She sheepishly looks sideways at Ka'kara as she says this last part. What would the functional difference be between getting it identified at the Academy vs. at the Temple?
Ka'kara Furyheart
Ka'kara is pleased to see the bear put into it's final resting place. She shows Roylenna her new tattoos that represent a stylized headress for the goblin king, a long flowing tattoo for the dragon, a small stylized figure surrounded by wavy lines for the water devil, and the claws of a great bear. She offers to do tattoos for Roylenna for any of their adventures that hold meaning for her. Seeing Lenna's continuing sorrow for Rana she also offers to do a tattoo for her in memory of him.
Once back in town she will try and catch up with Vladoff and go for a drink. She leaves the buying, selling, and identification of items to those better suited working in such an urban environment.

What would the functional difference be between getting it identified at the Academy vs. at the Temple?
The Academy are better at it, but there isn't really a functional difference. The Academy has a number of wizards, while the Temple has some clerics with the Magic domain.

How much actual loot do we have to sell this time?
Uh-oh. I think I was supposed to be tracking that... I'll do some homework soonest, but other volunteers are welcome to review to see what we picked up in the threads. Am I correct in assuming we did not try to claim Rana's gear?
Black Tom
Here goes...
Life in the big city was a bit more expensive than Mahaffy or Chris had counted on, so when they heard that there was free lodging to be had at the Temple of Asclepius, they each thought that it would bear checking out.
The temple was a bit crowded, but there was a friendly atmosphere, and when they heard that the temple had been harassed by hooligans lately, they both knew that they had found a worthwhile purpose. Guarding the precincts and the mismatched crowd that was seeking shelter there might not be too heroic, but it passed the time. And it was the right thing to do. The free lodging was just an added perk.
Proteus
Upon arrival at Warwik, Proteus, obviously, has mixed emotions. However, he quickly makes his way to the temple of Asclepius. He arrives and buries himself in work around the temple ministering to the homeless after tithing (we'll figure out what that is later).
When the opportunity presents itself, Proteus will inquire of Brother Beamus about the goings on of Warwik and how his services will best be put to use.
At some point, he will make his way over to the Highmount manor and pay for Atlas' upkeep.

Sandros accompanies Royl to help carry their spoils of war to the shops.
In my game, it certainly would be. The balance is still perfect, the materials and workmanship flawless. I would not penalize you for using it more dexterously (sp?) than it was designed for.
For sake of length:
Another note: I did not include any of Rana's gear here. That sort of thing can lead to party inflation, but he didn't have an outrageous amount of gear, which did include a masterwork shortsword, iirc. We did not make a point of harvesting the 40-odd javelins, swords, and daggers from the fallen goblins - or kobolds, for that matter. Do we care?
Last question for this time around, do we write off the magical medium dagger/small shortsword that Hella picked up. I'm pretty sure the intent was to divvy things later, so I would be inclined to divide loot as though the sword were there and Hella were still present and just let her share disappear into the ether. Would we do the same for Jiro (sp?), also, then?

I agree. Rana's loot was burned/buried(?) with Rana avoiding any complications from that.
no, Ka'kara would have had no interest in looting all the little weapons and armor from the goblins.
and yes, Hella disappears off with the dagger. She earned it and it feels right.
Jiro on the other hand was sort of an ascetic(sp?) monk and I could see forgoing any of the loot and just heading off.

Perfect. I'll run it through the calculator and see what's left to identify and what our money is at the moment and get back to y'all. Unless someone else wants to take the ball and run with it, of course. My feelings won't be hurt in the least.
Black Tom
The mace is perfectly useable as a light mace and still mw. Hella absconded with the dagger, but that also means that she and Jiro have forfeited any share in the rest of the loot.
Proteus meets a somewhat troubled Father Beamus. While the cleric is happy to see him, things aren't really going that smooth. There has been a lot of harassment lately. Visitors have been beaten up, a few even killed, by local thugs, and he has been forced to rely on adventurers for protection, which hurts the temple's reputation as a peaceful place. He doesn't know if there is someone orchestrating the attacks, or if it is some kind of vengeance from the Temple of the Moon. Relations between the temples are quite cordial on an official level.
Meanwhile Ka'kara spends her time drinking with Vladoff, who seems to be itching to get out and lay some undead to rest, to fulfil his penance. Brock would have been joining them, but he seems to have gone missing a day or so ago.
You can make any purchases you can afford, and then the question is where you want to go next.

She enjoys Vladoff's company immensely and regales him with the tale of the skeletal bear when he mentions undead. "Who is this Brock you speak of Vladoff? More company is always welcome especially if they have good tales."

Consensus appears to be to sell the following:
100 gp - Earrings
8.95 gp - copper pieces
42.5 gp - silver pieces
75 gp - garnets
75 gp - gold picture frame
200 gp - strand of pearls
90 gp - silver rings
120 gp - pairs of earrings
for a total value of 711.45 gp
Of what remains, the following have been claimed:
Sandros: Masterwork light mace
Roylenna: Wand of Silent Image
Roylenna will take the 3 vials of Alchemist's fire if no one objects.
The following needs to be identified or appraised so we can decide what to do with them.
Identify two potions from Grezzo
Appraise diamond nose stud from dragon's lair
Appraise small silver coffer & contents (we never opened it)
Appraise (?) blank sheets of vellum, quill, ink - can anyone scribe scrolls? We might prefer to keep these - or gift them to Father Beamus
Appraise moonstones
Identify medallion from lake area
Roylenna failed on her attempt to appraise/identify this
These are her appraise rolls for the other items. She'll use detect magic where necessary to attempt to identify items.
What have I forgotten? Do the rolls yield any new information, BT?

Grezzo's potions are Cure Moderate Wounds and Bear's Endurance. Roylenna isn't sure about the diamond stud, but it looks valuable. The silver coffer is worth 50 gp and contains a gold cup inlaid with tiny rubies (50 gp), a silver comb (25 gp) and a magic ring. The moonstones are worth 50 gp each.
The vellum and ink represent 50 gp of materials.
Proteus
Proteus is troubled even more so by the news given him from Father Beamus. During his day at the temple working with the homeless, he will gently question them to see if any have experienced or witnessed the thugs first hand attempting to gain any information about the perpetrators. After his day of ministering to the homeless taking refuge in the temple, he returns to find his allies.
When the majority are found together, Proteus relates the information. "It appears that Father Beamus is experiencing some trouble from some locals. He has recently found the need to hire mercenaries to protect the homeless who are seeking refuge as some have been beaten and a few others even killed. I am at a loss for what to do next. I would like to continue to the caverns to find the lost soul we seek, but I would also like to seek out a means to prevent the attacks on those of the temple."

We should find out what the ring is, if possible. And I guess the vellum and ink will get the job done - we should probably hold onto it, then, since that's 4 1st-level scrolls' worth of material. Assuming we'll want to make some scrolls, it's worth holding onto them, I think.

25 gp - silver comb
150 gp - 3 moonstones

Of what remains, the following have been claimed:
Sandros: Masterwork light mace (Price of small heavy mw mace: 312 gp)
Roylenna: Wand of Silent Image (charges unknown, price ?)
Roylenna will take the 3 vials of Alchemist's fire if no one objects. (60 gp)
Total known value of sell & assigned items: 1358.45
One-quarter: roughly 339.50 gp
Keep (unassigned):
Cure Moderate Wounds
Bear's Endurance
Sufficient vellum & ink for 4 1st-level scrolls (50 gp)
The following needs to be identified or appraised so we can decide what to do with them.
Appraise diamond nose stud from dragon's lair
Identify medallion from lake area
Appraise/identify magic ring from coffer
Appraise + Detect Magic for magic ring 1d20+6=14
Black Tom, where was the other magic ring? I only found mention of the one you just told us about. Or are you referring to the medallion the undead bear was protecting?
Roylenna leans toward visiting the Academy for identifying the unidentified items. What is the going rate on that in the new game? Is it still 100 gp per item? "Sandros, do you know someone trustworthy to whom we could sell the diamond stud? I think it is valuable, but I don't know how much to ask for it."
Black Tom
Yeah, I got the medallion mixed up. There are two items, not rings, for you to identify. It's a bit cheaper to have stuff identified now, since it can be done with Detect Magic. I'd say that you could get things identified pretty accurately for 50 gp a piece. It could be done cheaper but with a margin of error.
Sandros has no problem getting the diamond stud correctly appraised at 250 gp.
Black Tom
Sandros (as well as the rest of you) is in rather a good standing, so he has no problem getting in touch with a half-elven wizard who knew his father. His name is Thayne, and he can easily identify both the ring (which is a Ring of resistance +1) and the amulet - which actually elicits a smile from him. It's an Amulet of Elvenkind which grants you a +2 racial bonus to saves vs enchantment, as well as immunity to magical sleep, just as if the wearer were an elf. He gracefully accepts 50 gp from you for his trouble.

As a player, I would suggest that something that would reduce our chances of having our favorite barbarian enchanted into attacking us might be worthwhile. ;-)
Seriously, who is interested in unassigned swag or has a different idea for tentatively-assigned swag? I'm kind of thinking the potion of CMW and vellum are really party property - even if Sandros creates scrolls, there's a fair change Roylenna will use them for the party's benefit, and the potion will go to whoever needs it the mostest the firstest. Bear's Endurance would seem to be a good choice for our lady warrior, as would the brooch, and I think the Ring of Resistance could go to anyone, but protecting our healer is a wise investment. I don't know (or particularly care) how equitable that makes things, but I'm good with that split and an even split of cash.
What say ye, lads 'n lasses?

Me too. I'd always rather have a functioning and survivable party before an exact cash division... Sandros still owes Royl and Ka'kara something out of the cash this time, too, so I'll want to take that into account before I decide which (if any) spells to scribe. Anyone got any requests? It might matter to Royl in particular, since what I know is what I can make scrolls of..

I'd hate to steer your spell choices just so I could have a scroll. I have plenty of cash to pick up scrolls now and I'm guessing that anything you find compelling enough to make a scroll of will serve me well, also. When the IOU is mention Ka'kara gets a look of surprise because she seems to have totally forgotten about it. She immediately says it's not important and to not worry about it. Then she sees if she has enough gold for a MW Greatsword. It's 350 gp and I think we are going to end up just shy of 300 gp each if we split the gold. She currently has 54 gp to her name. Not sure if we want to pool some for the group type items. Wand of Cure Light Wounds? If we do want to pool than she will wait on her greatsword (rumor has it there is a magic flaming one down here somewhere anyway ;). She is greatly pleased if offered the medallion by the group and hugs everyone (making ribs creak in protest).

BT, before leaving, Proteus would like to hit Brother Beamus up for some healing potions. Three level 1 cure lights will do fine. So, once I have the time, I'll look it up and subtract it from my share of the take on this trip to town, if that's ok with you.

Beamus is happy to put the potion cauldron on the fire, and is able to offer you 3 CLW potions at a 10% discount.

If you've finished your purchases, maybe you should just make some new friends and hit the road.
