So it’s been about 10 years since I last attended a con (probably more – 3rd edition wasn’t yet out at the time), but I’m considering going to SydCon this year, given that Blue Eyed Paladin tells me it’s held virtually around the corner from where I live.
Wondering a few things; firstly, any Australian based board regulars planning to go this year? Any of you been to SydCon before? Any good? (For reference, the cons I used to attend in the 90s were MaquarieCon and Necronimicon).
Also, would anyone be planning to run or interested in playing a Pathfinder Society adventure at the con, assuming this is possible?

I think I'd be up for a Pathfinder Society game - probably as a player. But first things first:
*rolls bluff check vs wife's sense motive*
"Honey, we're not doing anything the October long weekend are we...?"

Yeah, I think some bluff checks or stealth checks or something will be required on my part to pull this off too.
So, step 1, see if I can make it
Step 2, see about getting PFS modules run at SydCon
Step 3, decide whether I want to (gulp) DM
Considering I havent been to a con since the 2nd edition days, and have never DMed at one, that should be ... interesting.

Yeah I haven't DM'd since 2e days for a couple of reasons:
1) That last adventure was the first Dragonlance adventure. We all had characters and we were all going to DM a couple each (we planned on running all 12). The ranger killed Khisanth as she came out of the well, with some very well placed arrows. I was disheartened, but decided to throw another dragon (her mate) in down in the treasure room. The rogue snuck in and backstabbed the dragon, rolling a natural 20 and then rolling a natural kill on the chart we were using from Dragon Mag. It broke me and I never DM'd again. =(
2) I much prefer to make and play my own characters. I have 10's of characters that I have made and never actually played with, and I have at least 2 or 3 ideas for new characters running around in my head at any one time.

I've been the main DM for my group for about 15 years or so now ... but I've never really DM'd for anyone else apart from my usual group (sure, there's been a changing lineup over the years, but that's generally a gradual thing).
Anyway, I've tried to contact the SydCon organisers (last week) asking about running a PFS scenario. No reply from them as yet. I don't know if there'll be enough time to organise it, given my cluelessness and the fact that they are trying to finalise the schedule shortly.

I live in Summer Hill - I haven’t been to a con before. I would love to go, It’s just negotiating some time with the boss and bossettes (Wife and daughters, I’m the only male in the house).
I would love to give PRPG a go.
I am my groups DM (We are running STAP and I am a bit burnt out). I would love to play.
My fear is that I am not a good player as the DMing has made me a bit of a control freak.

Mothman,
I know some of the organisers for Sydcon, so if you get no joy, let me know and I will hassle them for you. My main contact is currently at Gencon (lucky thing) but I could russle up someone.
I would be very tempted to come along and play a scenerio, and met people I have been chatting to on the boards. I will, of course, have to run it by the husband, and hope he doesn't want to come too, as someone has to look after the kidlets.

Thanks Sanwah, I finally got a reply this morning - just finished responding.
They're happy to have PFS scenarios at SydCon. The only two sticking points may be that they run 3 hour sessions (and the PFS scenarios are designed for 4 hour slots) and that we need to come up with enough DMs to run up to 10 sessions!
Right, so I need to figure out for sure if I can go, and come up with another few DMs willing to run the scenario ... any takers?

Hey man, you're not far away then. I guess you have a regular gaming group if you're running STAP (how far through are you)?
I'm currently DMing Shackled City for my group, and they're up to levels 6 and 7 ... we play slooooow.

We are at the End of Tides of Dread.
We are in a bit of a holding pattern as 3 of my players wives have had babies (I think D&D must make us geeks fertile). I have 4.5 regulars 1 once in a blue moon and 2 when they can make it.
It is so hard to run the STAP with so many players. I want to finish it though as it is the longest we have played a campaign without getting bored.
My players and I like to build massive back stories that have an effect on the game.
So the game tends to meander off on tangents....
That plus the fact that the party over analyse everything and will often have a 30 min planning session to open a box.
It has taken us a year to get to the end of TOD

So, for a realistic chance of running a PFS scenario at SydCon, we are going to need to have about 3 or 4 DMs available.
Does anyone want to volunteer for DM duty?
I appreciate that its relatively short notice, especially when significant others must first be persuaded to allow attendance!
Do you think its worth trying, or should we maybe leave it for a con next year?
Either way, it might be nice for some of us New South Welshmen to attend the con and meet up.

Yup, can identify with that one too...

OK - I'll put up my hand to DM for one of the three days, as I'm pretty sure I can get a leave pass for one day. If it all falls through I would still love to do a meet up at the con.

This is an old thread.
Just wanted to let everyone know that Sydcon 2010 is now on. A few Pathfinder Society missions are available.
See http://Sydcon.info for details.
Wow things have changed in 2 years - I will see if I can make it, I still have to negotiate with the Boss and Bossettes, I would be keen - Chubbs Mothy what about you guys?

If anyone's interested, I've signed up for #2-01 The Bloodcove Disguise and #2-02 Rescue at Azlant Ridge on Monday 4th for Sydcon.
However, I only have 3 people on the team and could obviously use a few more, preferably higher level characters for a Tier 6-7.
Sign up at http://sydcon.info while there's still time.
So far on table: Paladin 4/Bard 2, Cleric 6, Rogue 6.
