We just had Canada Day a few days ago, July the 1st. It is the anniversary of "confederation" when the first provinces formed an actual nation. We celebrate with fireworks and trying to convince ourself that we really aren't exactly the same as our neighbours to the south. ;-)
hey, your comics are funnier. you can keep nickleback though...

Except for Quebec, where they celebrate their "national birthday" (la Fête Nationale) on June 24th, if I recall correctly. It's a bigger holiday than Canada Day there. Plus it's their 400th year this year, so it's a big deal right now, it seems.
Good ol' Quebec. Always the exception to the rule! :)

That's us...we throw the best parties!
And there's a Quebec link to July 4th - the Quebec Act of 1774 was one of the Intolerable Acts that lead to the American Revolution.

Well the Cajuns are descended from the original Arcadian settlers who were forced to migrate after the British took over Nova Scotia.
As an aside, it seems the falling dollar has enabled a Quebecois style invasion of my home turf of Cape Cod. The Je me souviens plate can be seen far and wide this year... but that means extra dollars for our economy I guess ...
Bonjour mes amis! Allez-y a la Cape Cod mainteneant!

It is. In fact, the term 'Cajun' started as a mispronunciation of the term 'Acadian'. Over time, it became pronounced 'acad-jian', then 'aca-jun' and finally just 'cajun', where it's remained.
I don't think the cajuns and the acadians have that much in common anymore, though.
