You wanna kill Longshanks? New RotRL: BO Reverse Game Recruiting you evil types.

I am Starting a new "Reverse" Rise of the Runelords: Burnt Offerings - EVIL EDITION

I am planning on running a RotRL: Burnt offerings campaign from the perspective of the Bad Guys. Players are encouraged to let their inner evil out. Play as a goblin squad leader, secret body guard to Nualia, Bruthazmus's brother - who must have walked off and got drunk and was missing from AP1 or some similar story.

The NPCs will be those pesky heroes always trying to keep the little guys down. Don't let those long shanks get the upper hand, stab the
m!

Creation Rules:

I envision the PCS as mini bosses, Hobgoblins, Orc's, anything within ECL 0 - 1 to create. a Group of anti heroes working sometimes from the shadows sometimes directly involved in the plot.

(If you make an ECL 1, you will be set back in XP to keep you in line with ECL0 monsters.)

Optionally, PCs can play Goblins, they will be a tad smarter than the normal goblins, and need not fear losing focus and choking to death on a grilled slice of Salmon, no matter how delicious that may be.

I have plans to start at AP1 and moving forward through the entire path. I have a system in place where you can 'buy up' to a better monster race as the Ap's continue, or stay as your original character and become a Goblin of Legend striking fear into long shanks everywhere
you go.

Will the Anti heroes kill the would be heroes and help Nualia raze Sandpoint?

I will accepted Character Ideas (...and only ideas, no stats needed yet) on Wednesday or Thursday this week to give every evil PC a fair chance. Of Course you ARE expected to cheat, just don't get caught.

I will post when it's OK to officially submit a char for approval, some time on Wed or Thursday (9th-10th)

D30_DM

I told myself "No new PbPs!" but I don't know if I can resist this one. *sigh* Oh, the temptation.
Are you thinking about doing more of the AP or just the first chapter?

This is how I'm running my home game of RotRL. Sort of.

Let me know if you want any details of how I'm running it.

I do have plans to run through all of the adventure paths, granted the PCs here wont be saving Sandpoint, but they will basically go through the same path only looking at it a tad differently.

With the trade up system, you can upgrade to, oh I dunno, a stone giant? If some of those were to ever attack Sandpoint that is. Something along those lines, so I have an alternate plot that runs along side the normal PC plots.

Cool, put me down for a tentative yes. I'll start working on a concept.

The Exchange

maybe that will be my first pbp, who knows?

well, count me in, Ill come up soon with a nice bad guy for a change.

Is stuff like the PHB II available? A knight sounds interesting; possibly a renegade hellknight.

Evil edition! Can I join?

Spoiler:
Can I play Nualia's half-orc secret lover? Hobgoblin is an option.

BTW, 3.5 or PRPG Alpha Rules?

I'm interested as well. I'm thinking a goblin-sympathetic dwarf character, probably a cleric of Norgorber.

I plan on running it 3.5 style.

I don't have any problem with Character generation from nearly any printed source book in circulation. In this campaign I would only disallow content from the Book of Exalted Deeds. That opens up the Book of Vile Darkness, Libris Mortis, and any other evil centered book.

Radaval:

Spoiler:

If you want to create a character with 'very' close ties to Nualia thats OK, as evil as she is though she's already got a lover. But hey, you could remove him from the picture if you got the stones. She might dig your show of commitment.

32 Point Buy?

32? heck no.

I was planning on a "High Fantasy(20)" point buy.

If you want to roll the bones I will roll 4d6 for anyone and give you the results, using the standard 'hopeless' character rules.

That's not using the Alpha rules is it? It would make a considerable difference.

Ops, I was indeed thinking of the alpha 20 point system.

32 point buy system is what you should use.

Sorry for the confusion.

Whew! It was already thinking "Evil" was toast.

Revised Character Concept Proposal

Spoiler:
Zork, Goblin hunter-archer (ranger) with the hots for Nualia. He hates her elven lover, who he regards as a wimp deserving only of being at the business of his arrows.

Radeval: Not bad, but don't forget to post it Wed. when I post that applications are open. (it's a way to let people that might not have a shot otherwise to get in a new PBP game.)

Any particular character sheet you want us to use?

Any 3.5 compatible sheet is fine by me. Once I approve characters I'll make a copy for myself, so any is fine by me.

Today is the day to post your character concept idea if you wanted to be the bad guys. Unless you post that you want to be Darth Goblin I'll be taking the first 5 posters and adding them into the game.

Posting can begin in 4.5 hours (Noon EST) for submissions. I look forward to your concepts and creativity.

Don't forget about undead, lizardfolk, and other classic monster types.

If you want to play a more powerful monster with levels the Savage Species book has monsters as class levels you can start right away as well. I wouldn't recommend anything larger than 'Large Sized' however.

I'm only looking for a placeholder concepts today, don't feel rushed into having to stat them up just yet.

Beware of the GPCs,
D30

I like the way another thread is doing this so I'm copying it. I am still accepted concepts at Noon, and still have 5 spots to fill, but I will select the 5 that best fit or have the more interesting backgrounds/concepts.

That way there is no rush to post, and everyone gets a fair shot.

Of course being evil you could get creative and still find a way to cheat right? Hee hEe HeH!

Good Luck.

Helna Stonefist had always been an outcast amongst dwarvenkind. On a routine training patrol, Helna’s company was ambushed by the Thistletop goblins. Helna did the worst thing any dwarf could do in such a situation—she surrendered. The goblins didn't know what to do with her at first and many wanted to just kill her anyway, but a priest of Norgorber named Ghorg stayed their hands and took her under his wing. He revealed to her the "secret" history behind the Age of Darkness, painting the dwarves as the barbarians that brought low a great goblin empire. Helna, who already burned with hatred for her own kind, bought into his skewed story. Under Ghorg's influence, Ripnugget fell in with Nualia and company (who were quite surprised to find a dwarf living amongst the goblins, much to the dismay of Gogmurt. Ghorg recently died of mysterious causes, but Helna knows Gogmurt is to blame for his death, and she is biding her time to get revenge on the druid.

Yes, she is a cleric.

Sovereign Court

A faithful follower of the goblin god Zarongel, Nurk is a goblin "knight" of the Seven Tooth tribe. Ever since witnessing (from the safety of a hollow tree) the power of human knights on horseback, he has been obsessed with forming a unit of goblin cavalry mounted on goblin dogs, which would crush all opposition (and dogs!) and raise the Seven Tooth tribe to dominance in the region. Unfortunately, the chief of the Seven Tooths has been less than accepting of this idea, preferring the traditional Seven Tooth role of scavengers in Sandpoint's junkpile.

Realizing that the only way to achieve his dreams was to increase his status in the tribe, Nurk decided to follow the Seven Tooth hero Koruvus and attempt to kill him, coming back triumphant with Koruvus' prized longsword and claiming his rightful place in the tribe.

Tracking Koruvus to Thistletop, Nurk found that Chief Ripnugget was more interested in his ideas, and so has switched his allegiance (for the moment, anyways) to the Thistletop goblins. He has found Koruvus as well, but has so far been to afraid to risk Erylium's wrath by killing him. Nevertheless, he still has plans to do so and take Koruvus' sword. Once he has formed his elite cavalry squadron, perhaps he can even become chief of both the Thistletop and Seven Tooth goblins!

Lately, he's also become jealous of the position Bruthazmus has in the Thistletop tribe, especially his access to Chief Ripnugget's wives, but he hasn't decided what to do about it yet. In his wildest flights of fancy, Nurk sees himself as the head of a mighty army of mounted goblin knights, King of all the Goblins, fawned over by a harem of wives, possibly even including the human wizard Lyrie Akenja (although he goes back and forth whether he would make her one of his wives or just set her on fire and watch her burn).

Nurk is a fighter (possibly multiclassing into cleric) and (hopefully) with a goblin dog mount.

Yes, yes, a million times, yes.

The choices are endless.

Maybe a Goblin Warlock, or Dread Necromancer? Even an evil druid makes me tingle....let me work with it...

The Exchange

I promised I wouldn't get nvolved in another pbp, but this is just too tempting I'll have a think on concepts :)

I'm thinking a gobliny barbarian or a soceror (gobbo glee at magically breaking things!)

I may expand the group size by 1 or 2 depending on some secret plans, however don't forget if your watching this thread that submissions for characters done before Wed at noon this week don't count.

I think radaval is among those, just post your still interested and i will add you to the list.

Shadow Lodge

Will we be starting at level 1?
I have plans for a goblin druid/warlock...

If so, I'll start as a druid; my warlocky powers can develop at a later date...

SargonX, I hope you don't feel like I'm stepping on your toes at all, but I was thinking of going mounted for my druid, as well. Also on a dog; the druid's animal companion option of a 'riding dog' makes sense to me. Goblins inherently get bonuses for riding on things, and they're small and stumpy. It makes sense to get on top of one. Would it be cool for Vera's backstory to corroborate with yours in any sense? Or we could just both be mounted by coincidence? I could be one of the goblins given to you by Ripnugget, to aid you in the training and rearing of these mounts?

And DM, If you're looking for stats for a goblin dog, why not just use the 'riding dog' entry on the SRD?

Sovereign Court

Hey, the more the merrier! I am trying to make a whole unit of goblin cavalry. So that's fine - and our focuses (foci?) will be different anyways - you a druid, casting spells, me a straight-up mounted fighter (although I am thinking of playing a variant evil paladin from UA, or multiclassing into cleric.

As for goblin dog stats, why not just use the actual stats from Pathfinder #1? Goblin dogs are way better than riding dogs!

No toes stepped on sir, I do have plans to unfold once we begin however.

The base 'goblin dog' stats are going to be used.

Your animal companion can just as easily be your mount as well, no problems with that. (thats actually a very good idea as you get bonus synergy stuff for druid and a companion mount last I checked. That may be alpha material but I like it anyway)

I actually like it a lot that your all going for rider types, I can see some good things (evil really) blossoming as a result of this.

What? No goblin dogs? They're only CR 1, like normal riding dogs. They just smell worse and have bad dander!

level is starting at 1.

I'm not the type of DM to say you can't choose a class later that's different from your starting class. A lot of games I played in made fighters go through hell to take a level in wizard later, and I never liked that, it's 'assumed' you had exposure to say wizardry at some point in your back story so thats fine.

Ah, it's just that the stats for 'riding dogs' already has them trained for mounted combat and trip. If you want to assume that my animal companion goblin dog, is as trained as a riding dog would be, then that's cool with me. I can give up the dander for the trip, if you'd like.

His name is Crash.

Whatever you prefer, being evil, cheat a little by picking whatever you feel is best. Golarion goblins wouldn't be caught dead on a 'dog' though. Wolves however are not dogs, and can be an option for you as a druid.

Brinkt was a happy goblin, second wife of Chief Ripnugget posessor of most of the love of the leader and the good gifts of new and interesting things. Her happiness was taken away as the chief's harem grew and Bruthazmus moved in. Brinkt does not share well. If anything Brinkt was certain that she deserved many husbands, she was more than enough for Ripnugget and Bruthazmus all on her own without all the other women in the way.

Brinkt exploded. Really exploded. The goblin woman's arcane talents came to the fore in a fit of squealing anger and ever since she's been taking whatever she wants determined to be one of the dominant personalities of the tribe. She still fights with Ripnugget over what sould be her place in the tribe and her 'status' is utterly in flux but she's no longer with the harem.

So yeah, there's a quick and rough idea for the sorceress. More to come tomorrow when I'm more awake :P

I hope this is alright

Spoiler:
Unlike most of his Kin, Lemi has always had an open mind when it came to magic.

The young Hobogoblin was a common ranked soldier, deemed to weak for frontline combat. This was alright with Lemi. "Why throw your life away, when it could be put better use."

This idea was solidified when a group of adventurer attacked his "regiment". The leader of the grop was not a strong talented warrior, but a mage. A woman who flung flame and lightning, a person his kind deemed a weakling. The assult lasted for hours, but when it was over the adventurers laid at the bottom of the hobgoblins heel. The "regiment" had suffered though. Most of the higher ranked soldiers were dead, most by the mages own magic.

While the "regiment" cursed the foul magics, Lemi's eyes were opened. 'Why fear such a potent tool. If used right it could be the background of any "regiment"'. The order came later to burn the mage and her fell tools. This was the moment he had waited for. Being a common soldier it would be his and others task to destroy the body. He would take this time to take the mages tome for himself. After that he prove who the weak one was.

It worked. Not exactly to plan, but still. While the others weren't looking he was able to obtain the tome. Knowing he couldn't take the whole book, he ripped away a few pages from it. He replaced the tome and sent the body to be burnt.

Lemi studied the pages everyday while he was alone. The writing was a bit confusing, but he managed to figure it out. During his reading he found that magic could not only be used as a weapon, but to enhance a person and move the dead. The last two being of most interest. With this type of magic he could fill his comrades with vitality and strength. Also he could stir the corpses of the fallen using them to fill the ranks in regiment.

That was the plan, until one of his comrades found him reading. Lemi had few actions to take. He could kill the Hobgoblin, a death sentence in it's self. He could surrender the text, and hope he would only be made a slave. After thinking it through he decided to run. He pushed past the hobgoblin and never looked back.

Lemi now lives as an exile. Knowing if he were to be found by his regiment it would be his death. He's traveled toward the west, picking up small pieces of lore and training.

Lemi: Approved

I was thinking about just starting with them, but if you could think of a way for us meet that would work and probably for the better.

Also I was wondering is it possible for me to use the Specialist Necromancer variant from the SRD? I was looking at the Skeletal Minion and Enhanced Undead.

Enhanced Undead: Approved.

I was hoping a PC wanted to play a skeleton, this is just as good.

Note: your Enhanced Undead ability will not stack with the innate skeleten's bonus to those stats. (you can however use the better of the 2.)

Of course I can, you already provided plenty of information to come up with a catalyst to make it a memorable first meeting.

Still interested. :D

The Exchange

I'm sorry for the late submission, but life got in the way.

Anyway, since the history was almost done, I decided to finish it and send it to you, it would be a shame to keep all of those grammar mistakes to myself.

Spoiler:

Ilurean Einar

Born in the high nobility of Kalsgard and accustomed to dress and have most of his goods from the very best that Linnorm Kingdoms has to offer, Ilurean does not satisfies himself with less than perfect clothing and the best food that can be made.

But, after the death of his father, the constant quarrels among the other noble families to take the place where the old man sat made him taste intrigue and violence in levels that he had never seen before and, without the guidance of the patriarch, soon the family discovered that they would need more wits, and sometimes swords than they had, to keep the extravagant lifestile they were having.

After three years, the once rich and proud family of Einar was reduced only to a ship and the house where the widow, her seven sons and two daughters lived, Ilurean being the youngest.

The family ship, named Skavlar, was almost in pieces when Ilurean found it and soon some ideas of fortune began to grow in his mind, he would rebuild the boat and sail along a crew he would hire, gather money and come back to Kalsgard claiming his place on the seat that once belonged to his father.

But he had no gold to hire a crew, not even to bring the old Skavlar back to life. So Ilurean came up with a plan, he'd murder some rich member of the opposite families, take the jewels, they'd be carrying, reform the boat and travel far, as he dreamt.

Being a well manered man and a good chatter, it was no problem for the youngest of the Einar to slide into the other families and a series of murderers began to occur, noone suspected of the good young man among them, than went to funerals and cried amongst the parents of his victims, just to, later dig the grave and open the casket, to rob the most precious goods they had.

The plan was going smooth, until one of his older brothers found out what he was doing and, out of envy, killed his brother, just to be transformed into a sentient undead, then threatened to make him a slave for the rest of his days if he did not tell where the jewels were hidden.

Correctly guessing that his destiny would be to serve his own brother even if he delivered all the stolen goods to him, Ilurean decided to fight and, for his own surprise, defeated the brother in a lucky blow. Then ran to get all the good he'd taken from his victims, fleeing right after.

Ilurean went south, to a land where nobody knew him, wondering if someone there would be powerful enough to cast a ressurect spell, so he could come back home and claim his father's chair.

Thats when a strange energy drove him to a goblins lair, and defeating some of its inhabitants he knew that something powerful was to happen in the innards of that strange island resembling a head. Going under, he met Nualia, a beautiful girl, who told him to serve her, as her god would make him human again.

Ilurean now serves Nualia and sometimes, goes all the way to Sandpoint to see some of the plays in the theater, always dressed in rich clothing and well disguised, afterall, he says, I may be dead, but I'm not tasteless.
