This may not go best here, but does the Paizo gang have anything close to a solid idea how much things will be changed between the softbound Pathfinder and the final hardback?
I'm not completely sure I understand your question, but...
The softcover is a beta version and will continue to be the focus of playtesting. So much of the change will be dependent on the feedback.

The point of the beta (softcover) will be to playtest the game in it's entirety to find things that don't work or aren't clear enough so when the the final version comes out (hardcover), it won't need a Revised version for many years.
So a lot could change, or very little could change, it all depends on people's play experience.

Since you can get the 'softcover' as a free download, you don't have to 'buy in' to contribute. If you can convert your group over to the Beta, and provide your feedback to Paizo, that would be good.
Our group is going to finish Rise of the Runelords in about two weeks (I expect). The next game after that will be a short one, and use the Alpha 3 rules for the most part. But there are a few things in there that we just can't stomach (which I've referred to in the proper thread).
Hopefully the Beta will be 'easier' to use, since it will be around for an entire year.

so I wanted to get an idea of when I would want to buy into it.
You still get the PDF version for free, or a printed version, practically at cost. The thing costs 25 tacken (or even less with the Pathfinder Advantage). I can't give you exact numbers, but getting the thing printed and bound by yourself (or in a copy shop) will probably be not much cheaper. I personally don't see why i should even bother for an Euro or two.
