PHB2 Races - Accurate guesses (I think)

4th Edition

The new interview from Gamer Zer0 contain new spoilers from the PHB2. According to it, the the 5 races from PHB2 are:

First letters Gn, second letters o, e, and h, and one has the last letter of r.

We already know, from a previous spoiler, that the races had the first leters: D, G, G, H and S.

Mixing both informations, I compiled the following list of possible races:

Doppelganger
Duergar
Genasi
Gnoll
Gnome
Goblin
Hobgoblin
Shadarkai
Shifter

It's kinda obvious that "Gn" will be gnome. Also, Genasi are the only race with second letter "e", so we discard Gnoll and Goblin:

Doppelganger
Duergar
Genasi
Gnome
Hobgoblin
Shadarkai
Shifter

Now for the subjective part. We know that PHB2 will feature both Primal and Psionic power sources. Since Duergar is an obvious choice for Psionic, and Shifter is an obvious source for Primal, the final list has:

Duergar
Genasi
Gnome
Hobgoblin
Shifter

A nice selection of races, on my opinion!

Thoughts?

I'm not sure why you're so quick to dismiss Goblin? An odd choice to be sure, but first letter G and second letter o. City Goblins were a viable race in Eberron, which will be next year's featured campaign setting after Forgotten Realms this year, and you've included the Shifter, another Eberron race. Goblins could appear as a small, quirky, if uncultured, race in almost any campaign setting (hence their appearance in the PHBII instead of the Eberron campaign setting hardcover), and would help to fill the uncivilised humanoid PC niche left vacant by the ever-popular Half-orc.

To be honest, I'm not expecting Goblins to feature in PHBII, but neither would it surprise me.

With only 3 old classes remade, and 5 entirely new classes, I wouldn't necessarily assume this to be true anymore. (I think it was the intention last year when they were mapping things out, but that have said things have shifted and moved around.)

They have stated that they have done preliminary work on psionics and primal, but I don't think they have confirmed either for PHB2. Personally, I'd love it if they were included, but there hasn't been official word that I have seen, just strong indications.

My guesses:

Doppelganger
Gnome
Genasi
H…: (insert new name for Aasimar here)
Shifter

From what I've heard, and I don't have a link to back it up, Primal has been all but confirmed officially.

I think Shifters, Gnomes and Goblins are a good bet for the PHB2.

The reason I discarded Goblins is that I think that the race with second letter "e" are Genasi (I can't think on any other race with second letter "e"). So, two "Gs" out, no space for goblins.
