Dungeon... adventures?

4th Edition

Okay so I know they have that, "we will bring out more stuff as the month goes on" thing for the new D&D "mags" but... Dungeon with no adventures yet for the new 4E games? just hints how to use keep, which you have to buy. okay some others seem to be eventually coming out, but neither of them are starter missions. no love for 1st level games?
I hope they do better next month.

I hope they do better next month.

The month is a third over and there's almost nothing in Dungeon. Maybe they're saving the best for last? However, I stopped crossing my fingers long ago when it comes to the online magazines.

I believe there's a starter scenario as their Free RPG day offering.

I didnt start tracking the offerings from the magazines until, well, this month since I only cared about the 4th Edition stuff (and this is the month when they starting pushing it out). Though I'm not paying for it, this is the time for them to show off the content that paying customers should expect to get.
So far, some pretty good stuff and the month is only a third of the way over.

My fear is that WotC's adventures are going to be terrible. Like "Keep on the Shadowfell" terrible.

While I can't give any reasonable excuse why the release version of Shadowfell was so lackluster, the adaptation notes provided in this month's Dungeon have really improved it. I wasn't so keen on the Eberron stuff, but the Forgotten Realms content pushed the module well past playable. With those extra 17 pages, the adventure becomes pretty intriguing with secret histories, hidden cultists, and actual NPC interactions. I recommend it for anyone running the mod, even if they're not puting it in the Forgotten Realms.

I'm Greg Bilsland's new biggest fan.

In next month's Dungeon, WOTC is starting a new Adventure Path called Scales of War. It is based on the Red Hand of Doom campaign. It will take characters from 1st to 30th level over 18 adventures. I plan on running it for my gaming group.

I'm looking forward to this, as well. I don't think I'm going to run it as I have a campaign in mind that I'd like to run, but I'm going to make sure to give this AP a serious look. It's basically the first 4th edition AP and I'd like to see how it fits together.

I don't have high expections for WotC's ability to pull this off, but at least the attempt will be instructive. Maybe we'll all see what mistakes they make and learn from them. At the very least they'll set the bar for what a 4e AP should look like so when Paizo releases their first one they'll have something to measure themself against.

Is it actually called an Adventure Path? I thought that was Paizo IP?

In another thread, we learned this:

Nah; it's all good. We have elected not to pursue a trademark of "Adventure Path," since it's such a handy name for ANYone to use. Although the phrase was used at WotC in-house for their first 3.0 adventures, it wasn't used in any real public way until Dungeon's Shackled City Adventure Path.

So yah! Anyone can use it!
