Golarian half-orcs and orcs more attractive than most?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Silver Crusade

While the half-orc in the "line-up" picture isn't quite Dapper Dan, he still has much more handsome features than any half-orc portrayed in standard D&D 3.x art. Certainly moreso than Krusk at least. And the fully orcy orcs in Classic Monsters Revisited are at least as attractive as any half-orc in that same art, wheras they were portrayed in the standard art as being frequently lumpy and baggy in facial features(that "Survivor" in Savage Species comes to mind).

Conscious decision on the part of the art department? And have any female Golarian half-orcs shown up yet? And is there any chance of a half-orc iconic being appended to the current line-up in order to get all the races represented?

Not a tuskophile.

Spoiler:
Seriously.

Sorry, no half-orc iconic. The twelce iconics have been drawn up, and none is half-orc.

Even with any prettying up, they're not front cover model material.

Somehow, I find that vaguely depressing. Mr. Gruff Grimsalot the dwarf, (whom I love) is fine on the cover, and he's no big shakes as a pretty boy.

It's too bad, really. I'm not opposed to an artist trying to wow us with a sexy, double-jointed half-orc ninja.

Pants optional.

I havent seen enough Half-Orcs in pathfinder to comment about them being less ugly. There seems to be a braod specturm of how much of the orc parent's traits come through.

But I will also voice my dissapointment that there isnt a Half-Orc among the iconics.

Yeah, even if it´s not on a cover, there should be a half-orc iconic for us orc-fans inspire ourselfs :P

I'm a big fan of half-orcs, and would dearly love to see more half-orc art around in Pathfinder. Several of my past characters in D&D have included half-orc fighters, barbarians, monks, thieves (1st ed, obviously) and even one tusky bard! I am actually a little surprised that half-orcs now get to choose Cleric as a potential favored class. With their potential for being social outcasts, survivalists, and their rugged racial abilities, I would have thought that Ranger would suit them far more aptly than Cleric. I will probably switch those two classes in my campaign as a house rule.

I'm guessing the Cleric is because there are a fair few orc/half-orc shamans about...

On behalf of the Half-Orcish community I would like to thank Paizo for breaking from the traditional stereotypes and representing us with a charming, classy, and possibly intelligent young woman in their recent "Campaign Setting" publication. Thank you for showing that we are not some homogenized group of thuggish brutes.

Your offices will be spared during the next seasonal raid.

If I remember correctly, the half-orc headshot from the new Campaign Setting Hardcover is female. If its the picture I'm thinking of, she was a little tusky, but otherwise not bad.

"A little tusky"?

*cringes slightly* I'd hate to see what you consider to be full-on tusky then. She's a right fair lass whose like I've not seen-- *thinks about it*-- well, ever! She's a mere wisp compared to the many others..

*narrows eyes* Of course, I suspect she is possessing of a certain feat that has aided in the pronouncement of her more.. human side. Still, "Book & Cover", and all-- regardless of the window dressing, "some hearts beat blacker than charcoal"...

I'm sure our Cheliaxan associates are familiar with the concept... =p

I think a half-orc, sporting tight leather and piercings, worshipping Zon-Kuthon might be very tasty on a cover. I'd give that a 5 tusk rating.

Is that what they call it these days? Ya know that makes you go blind...

I would like to see more pictures of Half-orcs in the various products. I am currently playing a Half-orc Druid in RotRL, and am beginning to use a half-orc Fighter in Second Darkness as we start that campaign.

Half-orcs are relatively uncommon NPCs in Golarion so far... that's by design, in fact. They (and half-elves) are supposed to be more of a PC race than any other race; they don't really have nations of their own and the ones that DO survive tend to be the stuff heroes are made of.

That said, we are trying to get a few more half-orcs into the mix. We've got one coming up in a bit, in fact, who's pretty cool... one who may or may not be associated with a prestige class...

Oh god, please don't tell me the sacred prostitute of Calistria PrC doesn't have a Half Orc as the example...

Stop trying to keep us down! There's nothing that says we can't be sacred or prostitutes!

I'm in support of the more human looking half-orcs. The original (1e) half-orcs were more like this, it is only in 3e that they went all monstrous looking. The more tamer looking half-orcs are a lot more believable as a race that could find even a slight degree of acceptance in human and demi-human communities.

The Galorian 1/2 Orc does look a little 1/2 Elf (Just sayin...not trying to make comments about who his daddy is or nuthin).

But they should have gone with a more open attitude to the 1/2 breeds.

The Outcasts

Plague elf - 1/2 human, 1/2 elf: refered to as plague elf for their capacity to transfer human diseases to the elf population.

Middenborn - 1/2 Orc, Half elf: refered to as middenborn because these are usually abandoned by the elf mother on instruction of the elf community.

Swamp elf - 1/2 Troll, half elf: refered to as swamp elf for their muddy green qualities. 7' tall elf with regeneration and claws.

Those are called falseborn, because an orc/elf crossbreed is simply impossible. So if you ever encounter anyone who says he's an orc/elf, you know he's lying.

Of course, it's far beyond me why someone would claim such a thing.
