Seltyiel

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I goddam approve. I've loved the Iconic's all the way up along, but I was very meh about a half-breed race, and a multiclass character as the last Iconic.

Just finished reading the blog entry/downloading the image.

And I love him, far from indifference or not liking him he's a masterfully well done character, a great antihero and evil sickly wizard. And he's alright in a fight, his sword is wicked cool.

Once again, Wayne Reynolds is on form. He looks amazing, especially the fire imp/quasit in his hand.

About the whispering voice, was it a demon, a devil or just his own madness?
I was thinking it sounded glabrezu-esque but given it's cheliax a devil suits, and the thing seems more likely to be an imp.

What can I say, I love Seltyiel, the minute his face is an option for an avatar on these boards I'll be using it. Speaking of which, are all the other iconics options for avatar, specifically Lem and Lini? I think I found all the others.

So whoever's in charge of that, please add the WAR headshots of the iconics to the list of choises for messageboard avatar.

Please! Humor me, I'm irish! :D

He does indeed look and sound great addition to iconics..

Only thing that I found little strange was that in the blogs they said he was gonna be Fighter / Sorcerer but from the backstory I got the idea that he was more of a Fighter or Rogue / Wizard, with the spellbook and brigand camp.. But maybe that was just me.. Anyway Great Story / Character Pathfinder guys!!, Give more multiclass iconics!!..
=)

Yeah, he certainly seems to be a wizard.

The thing about whispers made me think about Warlock class or maybe Sorcerer Bloodline (Infernal), and the picture about Fire Imp/Quasit could support that. The book could be only about skill training and maybe path to manifest his latent Sorcerer power.
Hopefully we will soon hear the official line from Pathfinder.

Yes, gotta give Wayne Reynolds high praise for another great artwork.

I agree, Seltyiel is definetely my favorite iconic thus far. Something about that illustration just reminds me of Elric of Melnibone. I can't wait to see the cover of Pathfinder #12!

Sovereign Court

Well, Elric of Melniboné is truly iconic, in much the same way as is Conan of Cimmeria, Gandalf the Gray, and Cugel the Clever. So it's only natural that Wayne might draw inspiration from Moorcock's beloved antihero for one of the Pathfinder iconics.

Keep 'em coming!

:o)

I think he's an arcane bond (familiar) sorcerer. Could be wrong, probably am, but it is what I think he is.

James Jacobs had said the final iconic would be a Fighter/Wizard or Fighter/Sorcerer multi-class iconic. I don't remember if he actually said which of the two they had settled on. The artwork on this iconic is by far my favorite of the 12. I wonder if they will let him take a prestige class like Eldritch Knight at the appropriate level. Taking equal levels in Fighter and Wizard is generally a suboptimal choice, but I am pretty sure they said at one point that none of the iconics would have Prestige Classes the first time around. In later Paths they may give them those sorts of options in their writeups at the back of the issues.

In any event, Seltyiel is the very definition of cool. He should also please the "His sword is the size of a cruise liner for cripes sakes!!!" crowd as his weapon is either a longsword or perhaps a rapier. In any event, this also makes me want to play a half elf (a first for me) just because the backstory is so awesome. Great job guys. Now get us wallpapers for the remaining iconics and we can be best friends forever!!!!

Liberty's Edge

Definitely my favorite iconic hero. Now maybe we could get their dark antogonists? That's right, I want 12 more iconics from the evil side of the block!

Liberty's Edge

Indeed James Jacobs was clear - Fighter/Sorcerer. See Any Pictures of the Fourth Iconic Yet?.

Liberty's Edge

Very cool background story!! Best one so far :-)

I'm pretty sure he'll end up being a fighter/sorcerer; the fact that his father was unable to "trigger" his inner sorcerer power is likely due to the fact that he was coaxing the wrong trigger. Seltyiel's power is from a darker place than his father's power.

ALTERNATELY: We may just go with fighter/wizard in the end, and have the voices in his head be a part of his personality.

In any event... he's also gonna be the only evil iconic. That should probably stir up some chatter...

Very cool backstory. I like the idea of exploring "evilness" with an iconic.

I figured he'd be evil, my money's on NE!

Oh, and I statted him up for both sorcerer and wizard using PFRPG, I personally thought the wizard worked better, energy ray gives him that extra amount of literal fire power.

It's on the races/classes board.

Anywho, massive congratulations on finishing your iconics! They were absolute class from start to finish.

EDIT: That's not a pun, it's a colloquialism.

James just posted on another thread that he'll probably be a fighter/sorcerer 10/10 or fighter/wizard 10/10 and use his spells to augment his melee abilities.

hmmm I really shouldn't be posting at work or shouldn't be at work this long on memorial day, not sure which.

Liberty's Edge

I can just see/hear him walking down the road, singing to himself:

"In my casket purse I'm toutin'
Einstürzende Neubauten
And pagan hymns to Thoth
Yes the world would be depressing
Over death I'd be obsessing
And this corpse that I'm undressing
Would be sexier, I'm guessing
With my diet I'd get scurvy
And I'd worship Peter Murphy
If I only were a Goth"

And at the sound of someone chuckling, blast him halfway into the next life.

He shall be my adopted pet villain. Redemption is not out of reach yet. Sweet, tasty redemption.

I like that he's a bastard in more ways than one.

So are we going to have some kind of apprentice level thing going on for first level? Basically make him a 1/2 fighter, 1/2 arcane caster? There were rules for it back in 3rd edition DMG, though I don't think it was ever open content, I'm sure similiar rules could be derived independently.

Dude looks the same Sepiroth from Final Fagstasy 7. Notice that this is a bad thing.

Nope. At 1st level, he'll probably be a 1st level fighter. The next time we stat him up, probably at 4th level, he'll be a fighter 2/sorcerer 2 or whatever.

LE works better. He'll work to accomplish the goals of his friends and allies. His methods just won't be something they approve of.

I must agree that this is my favorite of the iconics! Dripping with flavor, complex, everything one would want in a dark, caught-between-two-worlds type character. And Wayne's art is, as always, stunning. Bravo!
