[Creating Monsters] Example

Recommend adding at least two examples in the beta. First would be the creation of a unique creature using the rules. The second would be the breakdown of an already established monster (e.g., kobold, dragon, vampire, etc.) using the rules.

OK, I had an actual example of a Glidewing dinosaur I'll be using as a Druid mount,
so I'll share how it went converting it over:
Stat Block:

Spoiler:
Changes updated from Pathfinder rules marked in Bold

Large Animal
Hit Dice 3d8+9(22hp avg.)
Initiative +2
Speed: 20ft, fly 80ft (average)
AC 15 (-1 size, +2 Dex,, +4 Natural), touch 11, flat-footed 13
Base attack +2 -->+3 CMB +8
Attack: Bite +5-->+7 (1d8+6-->1d8+4 dmg) (BAB+3 STR+4=+7)
Space/reach 10ft/5ft
SQ: Low Light Vision
Saves: Fort +6, Ref+5, Will+3
Abilities: Str 18 Dex 15 Con 16 Int 2 Wis 15 Cha 11
Skills(1/HD): Perception +6, Fly+6-->+7 (3 ranks: +1 /+2 each, +3class skill +2WIS/DEX)
Feats(2): Alertness?, Fly by Attack (Alertness:Appraise aspect not appropriate, Skill Focus:Perception instead?)
CR: 3

So... It mostly was not that different.
It ended up with +1 to one skill, basically from how class skills are treated.

How the Alertness Feat now works, giving +2 to Perception and Appraise, makes me think it should now get Skill Focus:Perception (@ +3) since the Appraise aspect is not really appropriate to a dinosaur (I guess dinosaurs COULD be like ravens and collect shiny things...)

Looking thru the SRD Monster Feat section though, I think those could be updated for Pathfinder. Looking at Improved Flyby Attack (prereq: Flyby Attack, Dodge, Mobility), it seems predicated on the old Mobility (+4 AC), therefore it now gives ZERO benefit beyond Mobility, it's own prerequisite (negating AoOs due to movement.) To update it, perhaps it should only need Flyby Attack as a pre-req?

My main question from converting it was how the attack bonus (and CMB) works out. Just working from it's 3HD, size, and 18 STR, I got higher BAB and Attack Bonus with it's Bite than the standard 3.5, but a lower damage (if I just took the 1d8 standard dmg based on size, + 4 STR). I'd like to hear if people think this is how it should work, of if there's other factors that should be considered.

Neat. Thanks!

I posted my version of the Behir under a different topic.

Keep in mind that my Behir includes a house rule on the Swallow Whole Ability that I use.

Edit: I just remembered my version used the 1 feat per 2 HD that characters get. To bring it in line with the Alpha 3, just drop one feat (I would suggest great cleave).

Yep. I've also struggled with Alertness and Perception -- should I replace it and give the monsters more skill ranks now that they don't need to invest points in both Spot and Listen? So far (for the sake of ease) I've just used Spot+Listen/2 and if the monster has Alertness, it simply gets +2 to Perception and nothing else. Can't wait to get that PF Monster Manual! :)
