Okay, I replied to both Blitz and another person who lives in El Paso.

I hated to get anyone's hopes up, but I need to be very honest.
My group has too many players already. We have 7 total for D&D and it's too much, especially at high level play. Gaming with that many people and with all the children around is a logistical nightmare. My work schedule doesn't even allow me to participate in a game at my own house except for 1 month out of 3 and even then--the game moves a a snail's pace because everyone is 17th level and it takes us a half hour to resolve a single round of combat.

I run an occasional Eberron game on weekday nights when my schedule allows and it only has 3 players--it's perfect! It moves fast and we get as much gaming done in 4 hours as we do in 12 in our bi-weekly gaming megathons.

However, gaming at my house is very tough on outsiders. We've had 5 gamers come in and out over the years who just couldn't handle it. We have lots of kids--we have lots of little kids, we are all old friends and family who spend a great amount of time at the gaming table b$&$*+$@ting and not gaming.

However, I sent both of the El Paso gamers some info on where to find a gaming group. I hope that pans out for you. I'm sorry that I can't help you otherwise.

I think once all the kids are grown up and moved out I can get back to the kind of attentive gaming that I enjoyed prior to marriage. Right now it's gaming, but it's a sideshow, really. There just isn't much time and when there is time, the gaming is a sideshow to the socializing. There's only one gamer in my group whom I've known for less than 18 years and I'm related by marriage to two of them (wife & sister-in-law) and the others I've know for decades and we are very close friends, friends far beyond just gaming. That kind of circle is very intimidating to outside folks-particularly when they come to expect to find a game and end up finding a family reunion with an occasional d20 thrown. Between the smoke breaks, meal breaks, jaw-jacking breaks...you wouldn't enjoy it. I admit that sometimes I don't enjoy it myself (if we're going to get together to game, then let's f'ing GAME....I love my friends and family and we have a great time together, but let's GAME!!!)

Heck, we drove one guy away from D&D altogether so he took up World of Warcraft. We haven't seen him since then and he even broke up with his fiance'.....(she left the game too)

Eight years too late for gaming in El Paso ... ahhh the Ft. Bliss days. Dyer Street and All Star Games ... has it been so long?

I've never heard anyone reminisce about Dyer street. The original game store where I bought my first D&D stuff is still there, in the same shopping center, even....Sunrise Games & Comics at 8500 Dyer. It's been there since 1980. They even outlasted the blue spire that used to denote the location of the shopping center.

Okay, I guess there's a few parts of Dyer street that are okay.

<snicker> I had forgotten with my nostalgic rose-tinted glasses what else Dyer Street was known for :P

I recall a spoof song that KLAQ used to play called "Can you take me to Dyer?" which went to the tune of Creed's "Can you take me higher?" That was quite funny. However, despite its seedy side, it did have Sunrise and All Star, both of which garnered quite a bit of my disposable income during the late Nineties.

Hey, I use to hang out in some of those seedy establishments on dyer in the nineties.

Funny how I can remember the game stores vividly, but the bars I frequented along Dyer ... couldn't name a one of them. Guess that proves I'm either a total geek, or I was just too drunk to recall anything when we cantina-crawled Dyer. Ah well.

Schatzie's.....I'm sure....

so does anyone here got a pathfinder game going, or is looking for one to play in maybe? i'll play or run one if needed... just let me know

Scarab Sages

I'm still looking for gamers anywhere in the area. Marfa, Fort Stockton, Alpine, Ft. Davis, Marathon. Heck, I'll even drive to Van Horn if I have to.
