I was curious whether or not Paizo intends to continue with the Map Folio products beyond the announced one for AP2. In my case, I'm curious because I really want to subscribe to the Chronicles line, but I don't want the map folios AT ALL. The discount for the subscription is pretty much eaten up by the cost of a map folio twice a year and makes the subscription unattractive to me.
The reason I don't like the map folios - the only thing in the entire folio of use to me is the fold-out regional maps...the encounter maps are useless to me. If they were full size 1" square maps, then we could talk, but just reprints of the maps from the books do me no good at all. If Paizo produced a folio that just had several of the large fold-out maps, I would be more interested in that product than the current folios.

I like the map folio I received so far. I found that even though they are reprints of maps from the adventure - they are not the same size or format and print up better with less messing around. I wish more of the maps were included but I was happy with it.
I took the Sandpoint and Varisia maps to Kinkos and put them on vinyl. the 3x4 map of Varisia is awesome. I plan to do the same with the Galorian map (maybe this one will be 4x5 or maybe 5x6. I haven't decided. I enjoy being able to make the big maps.
I do agree though that maps set up as combat battlemaps would be awesome.
I still think that the flip-maps should be locations right out of the APs. For example the mountain pass could have been the pass from Fortress of the Stone Giants, etc. The town square could have been Sandpoint where the Goblins attacks (town square is what I used for that battle anyway). Just a thought.

As a pure PDF product, they are actually pretty cool. But as a print product, they fail for me.

The poster maps of Varisia and Sandpoint were awesome.
However, the dungeon maps were very disappointing and unusable IMHO. The individual books have the same map.. without the book a C7 label is useless. As said, above, they're not even usable as handouts.
The Magnimar map was the biggest disappointment. I was hoping for a poster map.
That said, if putting the poster map in the Guide to X chronicles books is going to be standard practice, I'd like to see the Map folios go away. I'd also pay extra to have supplementary poster maps included as extras (like the Sandpoint poster could have been a $2.99 extra for one of 1-6 books.)
All that said, the next Map folio's description promises full page maps, so it might be better then the RotRL map folio.
