In Episode 44, the guys interview James Jacobs, the editor-in-chief of the Pathfinder adventure line at Paizo Publishing. The guys get into an indepth discussion of the ins and outs of the first Pathfinder adventure path, Rise of the Runelords including questions from Mike and Kyle's kids who are currently playing through the adventure arc. The guys try to figure out how exactly what it takes to try to coordinate the massive story lines and plot twists of Pathfinder's six-issue adventures. They also talk about the Pathfinder RPG, what James thinks about the guys at Wizards of the Coast, how cool it is to get an adventure published in Dungeon at age 14, and how to exact your bitter revenge on Erik Mona. Finally, James undergoes the gauntlet of the Animalball Hotseat, answering the five hardest questions he's faced since taking the SAT.

No problem, while I was listening to it I started going through the Dungeons from that year to find it. A piece of history there should I ever meet James. ;)

Thanks. That was pretty cool.

I've been going back through the older episodes, particularly the D&D and Pathfinder ones.. very entertaining. Should deserve time every week for D&D talk. :)

I'm playing in Rise of the Runelords, are there any spoilers for that AP in the interview.
There are some. Depending on where you fall under the "no spoiler" scale... It isn't bad.
If you are on the side of "don't tell me the adventure's name, because it will give away the basic plotline," then you want to wait to listen to it.
If you don't mind stuff like (not RotR spoiler) "the group climbs down into the underdark and takes on Drow and even a Red Dragon," then you will be okay.

That's exactly how I would have characterized it. Thanks for all the compliments- my brother and I have been doing this for exactly one year next week and are basically just BSing about our different geek related interests. Most of the casts focus on gaming, but some are comics, horror movies, etc.
For our second year, we're focusing more on gaming (particularly D&D since that's all either of us is playing with our kids right now) and are trying to rotate interviews with game designers (you hear that, Nick Logue?), game reviews and player profiles every six weeks or so with our usual topics-- and the majority of those future topics are going to be D&D related.

I had a blast recording this! And those last five questions were tough, except the first one. That one was super easy, and it made me a little cocky and that's what I blame flubbing the next four on.
ANYway... yeah! Good times! Nick! You should do a pod cast with these guys! If only because you can reveal TO THE WORLD just how foul-mouthed you really are! :)

Gee, I don't know if you'll be able to get him to do it. He's such the shy, retiring type.

I thought it was cool how the interviewers had their children provide many of the questions for James. Very fun! Podcasts are kind of awkward over the phone. You tend to talk over each other a lot, which I heard happening here. It was a great interview, though. Provides a lot of insight into the troubled mind of Dr. Jacobs. ;)

Uhhh... Well, they did mention jokingly that they tend to tell people that there will be no spoilers then proceed to spoil the living F out of it. So, maybe wait on listening, but I don't think it'll ruin anything for you.

I'm not sure if I've ever heard of this podcast . . . is it a gaming podcast that talks about gaming on a regular basis, or a podcast that talks about other stuff and only occassionally talks about table top gaming?
I'll probably still listen either way, just if it's the first I'll be more likely to listen sooner.
I mean geeze . . gotta listen to something during my 3 hours of commuting a day . . . ::grumble grumble mutter mutter::

We're a gaming podcast that occasionally talks about other geek stuff (comics, movies, etc.). But every episode is 100% full of a butt-load of funny.

James was actually one episode shy of our first year. We record every week- go to the site for all our past episodes-- http://animalball.libsyn.com

I feel you, man. I've got 2.5 every day.
[Edit- the message boards censored out b-u-t-t? Wow, I hope the programmer of the boards doesn't listen to the 'cast 'cause we have a few f-bombs that might damage sensitive ears.]

Actually, the language filter is more of a fun puzzle than a means of censoring content. Just ask Nick Logue . . . one of his unofficial jobs so far as been to see exactly how much you can shock someone with colorful language and mental pictures without full access to your normal arsenal of profanity . . . the man's gifted I tell you.

Wait a sec . . . you've got 2.5 hours of commuting a day and still seem to do a podcast.
Now I just feel lazy.

I listened to this podcast on my way to work (35 min if I walk, 20 by subway ... bow before my morning commute!) and it's excellent. I loved how James Jacobs got a chance to talk about Paizo's process for developing adventure paths and how these are created.
Normally, I don't listen to many podcasts. In fact, my first podcast was Erik Mona's interview with Fear the Boot (I believe) wherein he revealed the gory details of having his character annihilated by lizard people with glass guns and it was hilarious to hear that referenced here.

I've got some extra just laying around if you want them. They're not the grade A kids, but they're okay.
If anyone liked the podcast, we just recorded this week's episode last night (it will be released Sunday) and Paranoia game designer Allen Varney makes a cameo to play a joke on Mike.
