Has anyone had much success with Pirate styled PCs (PCs that have a pirate theme or backstory)?
Of course even a Wizard could have a pirate theme.
As a matter of fact, one of the players (a big pirate fan) is playing a warlock, who was supposed to have returned from the sea. Betrayed by a rival pirate captain, he has gone on to embody pirate qualities along with his half-Olman heritage.
The character's name is Zatara (says he got it from a movie I forget...said it was supposed to mean "driftwood"), and he enjoys the freedom of constant and at-will abilities. He's died a couple of times, so he's no stranger to the grasp of Charon on the River Styx. However, he's remained a part of the pack, seducing nigh every female NPC, and intimidating or even using diplomacy very skillfully in almost every social interaction.

My wife's character is a finesse fighter, though I have put dragonshard pistols into my Eberron-STAP, and she has managed to acquire 2 of them. Even with the -4 penalty to hit, she hits occasionally, then whips out her rapier and kukri...she's also known as "Captain crunch" for failing her sailing check to land the launch on Parrot Island and causing a bit of damage to it from riding a wave onto shore.
Another character, our first casualty, he was a dragon-marked soulknife/pirate...he had potential...
