This may be a silly question, but I need clarification.
Does the additional damage from "Burst" enhancements factor in before or after the crit multiplier?
Also, I'm building my first epic level PC and am wondering how to properly equip him. What are some "staples" for high level archers? (aside from the obvious magical bow)

After, I believe.
As for the epic-level archer, it depends on which feats you like. Are you a set-your-stance-and-fire-rapid-shot, or are you using shot-on-the-run?
If you're using rapid shot, you'd probably like some means of moving / teleporting around the battlefield that doesn't require a move action on your part, so some independent intelligent item (like Alladin's magic carpet).
Defense: anything that allows you to be ethereal is a good start. Combined with ghost-touch arrows, you'll still be able to effectively hit.
Like everybody else, rangers got some powerful spells in the Spell Compendium. Take a look at the 4th-Level ranger spells there and see if you can get some of them placed on your bow.
Those are first thoughts.

Actually, he's more of the "fire arrows without range penalty from 2 miles away" kind of archer. And I say that literally...
All of his feats, classes, and gear so far are aimed for range, accuracy, and crits. In return, his AC is too pathetic to mention and due to his classing, spells are limited to lv 1. Aside from sniping things before they can eat him, he has very little to protect himself.
Ethereal is a good idea. And Ghost touch arrows can be done easily. What are some effective ways of "ghosting" an archer?
