What effect would the Robe of Runes (Fortress of the Stone Giants, page 50) have on a spontaneous caster? I have a Warmage in my group, and I'm trying to figure out how to make it worthwhile for him to keep.
The Intelligence bonus is easy, and will do well for him as a Warmage. What I've always done for items that allow one to recall spells (such as a Pearl of Power) is to just grant an extra spell slot. But how, then, should I adjudicate when to activate the bonus on attack rolls and DCs?
Any thoughts?

I don't think you have to modify this item for a warmage at all. The way i read it it acts as a pearl of power/ that recalls any four levels (1 4th level spell or 1 3rd level spell and 1 1st level spell or 2 2nd levels spells or 1 2nd level spell and 2 1st level spells or 4 1st level spells).
In effect a spontaneous caster would get extra slots for his spells where the "cost" of each slot would be the level of the spell.
What did you decide to do BTW?
