The Isle of Terror

Ever since we saw the unfinalized gazetter map, I have been fascinated by the Isle of Terror. I'm always fascinated by the possible adventures of living in a place that is named omniously and can strike fear into people's hearts. Hell's Kitchen, Razor, New Jersey, etc.

So what do we know about the Isle of Terror? Why do the people that live there stay? Do they wear the fact that they stay there as a badge of honor or do they live every day like that day may infact be their last? These are the things I'd like to know.

Anyone?

Is it like the Isle of Dread?

Is it called the Isle of Dread and I got the name wrong?

Liberty's Edge

I bet it is like the Isle of Dread. Every campaign needs a place like that. I bet instead of Terror Brds, they have Dread Birds.

Since Golarion isa home for adventure, you'll see a lot of places that seem familiar but are different. I've been told Riddleport is like a dingy Lakshmar (sp?) from a novel series I am unfamiliar with. This can be good because you can have a sense of a place, even if you're not exactly right. It can be bad because youmight guess wrongly about what a place is like. I think the speculation that this particular place islike the Isle of Dread is correct - but it could be wrong. It could be more like Ravenloft for all I know.

Scarab Sages

No, that's the isle of Misnomers and Imperfections...

It couldn't be called the Isle of Dread because that's WotC's IP. If you want it to be the Isle of Dread in your home game, you can. :-)

The Isle of Terror is a very idyllic place with no monsters on it whatsoever. It's just a name, like the Isle of Death, or the Isle of No Return. All isles have silly names like this in the Sea of Doom.

The Isle of Terror is the location in which the living god Aroden slew the mighty wizard-king Tar-Baphon, who later arose from the Isle as the lich-king known as the Whispering Tyrant.

The isle plays into Tar-Baphon's mortal life and is rife with terrible spirits and seemingly impossible occurances.

It's more like a pacific northwest lake island meets the Lost island meets a Japanese ghost movie.

Oooo... neat. Hopefully there will be some more detail on this place soon. *hint, hint*

It's marketting, by people who just want to be left alone. Kinda like Greenland, in reverse.

Spoiler:

True story: Erik the Red, exiled from Iceland as a sentence for murder, tried to persuade people to join him in colonizing this gods-forsaken piece of miserable rock in the northern Atlantic. To sway more people, he called it Greenland, and talked up its wonderful virtues. It sounded like Paradise.

Once they got there, he burnt all the boats.

Now all I need is the gazetter and I can have a whole campaign set there. This is the stuff I like. If few to no details of a civilization are detailed, I'll place a perminent halfling fishing community there. If there's a single mountain on the island, I might add some Duergar (both the psionic and non-psionic version). The Lich-king's civilization will be my masterpiece of the place.
