"Dero," with one r, were originally the creation of Richard Sharp Shaver, a writer who contributed to early UFO lore with his stories of "detrimental robots" tormenting humanity from deep within the Earth. ("Robot" in this case isn't meant to mean that they're mechanical, just... extremely single-minded, or something.)

Although we don't do much with derro in Edge of Anarchy, there are some really interesting seeds in there about how these menaces work. Think all of the really scary stories about alien abductions and cattle mutilations and all that... that's what the derro are into.

It's very VERY much a return to their original pulp magazine roots.
