Dark Archive

Nice pagecount, and price tag too.

The whole "splat books yes or no" affair is somewhat lost on me, as I won't switch and have at the moment more supplements regarding dragons (both official stuff and else) than I care to remember - which means more than enough for a fluff&crunch related matter, that is.

Dark Archive

Draconomicon for 3.5 set the scale very, very high.
Lets see if the second one can match the first.

Wizards has said many times that titles with "Dragon" in the title sell better. Thus, the series is born. :)

Dark Archive

I'm not sure how they can fill 288 pages with stuff that's specific only to chromatic dragons.

Surely there must be some "generic" dragon information in there as well?

For me, the most useful bit of the 3.5 Draconomicon was the stats for dragons of each type at each age category. As I understand it, this isn't needed for 4 as (for chromatic dragons at least) it will be in the MM.

And what the heck can they put in Draconomicons 2 to x?

Well, #2 can probably be Metallic, #3 can be weird-ass variants, #s 4 and 5 can be setting oriented, and....well...I'm sure they could think of something. :)

Naah,

#3 is weird and #4 is ass variants!

edit: ass as in donkey of course not as in backside!

Jon Brazer Enterprises

Don't forget dragonborn, Kobolds and other dragon races. That might be #3. Or there could be gem based dragons.

They're doing a Shrek Campaign Setting?

I'm sure there's a Skrek-ish kind of place in the Points of Light setting.

Absolutely. It's called the Forgotten Realms.

The Forgotten Realms used to be the spirit of wondrous high fantasy and romantic landscapes.

Now, the spirit of the Forgotten Realms is a greasy, dirty Froghemoth in a smoking jacket, grossly clasping Laeral around the waist while she's on her knees, shouting "Take it! Take it! Take it!"

Meanwhile, in the background, a Japanese Marching Band plays Barry White music, and the Froghemoth lights a cigar and says "That Chris Perkins is one damn amazing mofo!"

This is another mental scar that won't go away for a while. Good job. ;-P

This WotC we are talking about. That means that the book will be filled with new feats, spells, monsters, prestige classes, core classes, etc. Yawn.

I stand corrected.

On the bright side, dragon puns!

288 pages for Draconomicon...and it covers only Chromatics!?

WotC is really trying hard to rake in huge amounts of cash from people, aren't they?

I remember my 3E Draconomicon offering me both Metallics and Chromatics, and chunky part of new dragons, feats, prestige classes (for both dragons and PCs), magic items, and spells all in ONE book.

So, you need to get more Player's Handbook to get more core classes...and you need to get more Draconomicons to get the rest of the dragons...

Really funny, WotC. Ha hah.

I'm still waiting for April 1st to finally hear that 4E was just the biggest April Fool's joke ever.

Yeah, I tried to colour my post a little bit!

There is another side to this book: If the Draconomicon I is good, the second will be solid gold!

Just saw on the DnD EX blog that the Draconomicon will have 2 new Dragon colours.
I go for Pink and Mauve (because WoC thinks that trendy colours will attrackt more female gamers).

Forty bucks? Wow. Even more money I save! Go me! Go me!

Nah, I figure they'll add a Prismatic Dragon ("Look! It's got ALL the colors!"), and, just to confuse people, a Plaid Dragon, complete with Scots burr ("It's Brreath weapin' is SONIC. She sounds like BAGPIPES")...

lol! There arent too many colors left! Unless you get into the Teal, Periwinkle, and...horror of horrors...the Orange dragon! Whose fearsome attack consists of...bleating "please kill me" to the first adventurer to cross it's path.

Ari (Mouseferatu) and Bruce Cordell are working on the dragon book. I'll buy it just for that. I know Ari will do a great job and, as a regular poster at several of the boards, knows what fans expect and how to get it done. Bruce Cordell can be just so twisted that he worries me. All in all, I'm very happy now that I know who's working on the thing.

I'm sure Amazon will have a pre-order discount price up there eventually as well. The FR campaign book is 39.99, but with the discount it's like 26.37, which is what this book will prolly be as well.

So, just to avoid ambiguity - you don't like the changes to FR?

Ugh...what dignified FR fan DOES like the 4E Realms? If you can even still call it the Forgotten Realms anymore.

By the way, I'd like to thank the Paizo boards for sticking with me where Wizards banned this post.

Clearly people understood that the intention of this was to make people laugh, and I'm glad you did.

Well, to me it seemed that Ari always had a solid grasp of the rules and I like his style.
