"There's naethin' palatable tae drink doon haur, let's move oan, shall we?"

"Stig if things get outta control ole Harvak gonna light this place up like signal fire!"

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Elgan--the cockroach just went through a crack between two bricks in the wall where the mason's goop has, over the decades, flaked away.
Like roaches are often wont to do.

Methinks he wants us to look behind that wall TOO much.

Male Human Cleric 4

Probably so, Stig...but does anyone want to check of a hidden door/closet, etc?

FYI - I may be bogged down today in some work stuff with no posting until 8 or 9 pm EST. If combat breaks out, I rely on our fabulous DM (or his designated proxy)to help out.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

When the day's work hits me, it's gonna hit like a tidal wave too...don't worry about missing much, Becton.
I think Beldan got a 15 search for secret doors in this room...
(edit) yeah....15 roll.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

And....small recap from the main barracks room,...
There's a door on the north wall, 10 feet to the east of the secret door from the rotgrub room you all haven't been in.
There's the stairway up to the murderholed door.
And, nobody ever searched the main barracks room for secret doors, unless I overlooked it or there was a disappearing post.

I think it's only fair for me to give you guys a recap, since this damn thread goes so fast and little details get buried, and my own DM-style can be scatterbrained at times.

Male Human Paragon 3 /Evoker 6 (abjuration&enchantment barred) ---37,300XP

I wonder where that roach could have gone. Certainly not outside....Stand back while I use my powerful skills of observation.
Taking 20 on the area where the roach disappeared for a 27!!!

Stig leans against the wall then slides down into a squat and begins working a few of the notches out of his new axe blade.

"Whit's he lookin' at, Harv?"

"Rugs"

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

I don't know much of anything about masonry whatsoever...so...
Riese can see through the crack that there's a brickwork wall effacing the room herein, then an inner space about 50 cm wide between this brick facing and an outer wall of drymasonry that presumably buttresses against the outer ground. In that inner space, there's reinforcing concrete and/or grainy rock dumped in there. That cockroach could be anywhere in this space, cruising around. Gettin' in little cockroach adventures.
caveat: if any of this doesn't make sense from a design standpoint, that has more to do with my personal ignorance than with some mysterious structural design. This room isn't designed to channel Zool's energy or anything like that.
In any event, a secret door does not exist where Riese is looking.

Male Human Paragon 3 /Evoker 6 (abjuration&enchantment barred) ---37,300XP

Riese is gonna do a quick search of the whole room, not taking 20's. My modifier is +7, you roll it Heathy and let me know if I find anything.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Are you talking the alchemist's room, or the barracks room outside?

Nothing additional discovered in the alchemist's laboratory room.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

If Riese searches the barracks room:

Spoiler:
there's another secret door on the south wall of the barracks room, 15 feet from the western wall.

Male Human Paragon 3 /Evoker 6 (abjuration&enchantment barred) ---37,300XP

I was doing the Alchemist's room first then gonna work backwards, you just saved me some posts.
I knew it would take one with my superior perception to find this.. Guys, there's another secret door on the south wall of the barracks room, 15 feet from the western wall. You can see how the wall has a faint outline and the dust on the floor is slightly disturbed in this region. Someone like to check it out for traps?

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Beldan gives it a thorough once over;

"Nothing untoward on this secret door."

okay, I'm about to get busy busy busy at work.

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

As the party leaves the lab to look at the secret door, Altai pours the saucer's mysterious contents into a glass phial, before carefully securing it in his backpack.

"Yep, I'm 100% certain it's safe.

Someone else want to open it?"

Stig grumbles and opens the door, axe in hand.

Harvak stands behind him, the great sword raised ready to kill.

M Halfling Barbarian 10

"Hey, Stiggy, look out! Big-Ugly go crazy!"

<draws weapons, ready to strike down Harvak before he gets a chance to kill Stiggy>

To Gittik: "Shhh. We're gettin' ready tae kill th' mince oan th' other side ay th' duir wee fellaw."

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Opening the door, there's a switchback enclosed staircase, drops for 20 feet then curves around a corner. You hear the ocean's surf, smell the ocean from here.

You can hear somebody playing a simple shanty tune on a squeezebox somewhere.

Listen dc 10:

Spoiler:
you can hear people talking a ways off; can't make out what they're saying.

I gotta crash. I'm beat.

Male Human Rogue 14

Rest up man. Don't get sick yourself.

Failed listen check.

M Halfling Barbarian 10

<shrugs, slightly defensively> "OK, me just try to help."

<once the door is opened> "Me hear people talking down there. Good, me like kill live people, not dead ones."

Male Human Rogue 14

Beldan didn't hear anything (surprise) but he trusts Gittik's senses.

"Want Gittik and I should sneak down there and scope it out?"

He too feels more comfortable dealing with the living than the dead.

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

"Giant maggots, skeletal giants, possible mutant cockroaches, and now accordion-playing shanty-singing sailors. The fun never ends, does it?"

Harvak follows 5' behind Gittik and Beldan.Move silently 1d20+2=17

Male Human Rogue 14

Move Silently: 13+8 = 21

M Halfling Barbarian 10

Natural 1 (@*$#%!!!!) + 7 = 8

Move Silently: 1d20-4=7

Move Silently: 1d20 3=13

Harvak passes gas silently 1d20+2=17

Male Human Cleric 4

Becton doesn't hear anything. Listen (1d20+4=5)

He tries to follow the "silent squad", and decides it's better to wait - the plate armor makes sound like he's banging a collection of pots together. Move Silently (1d20+1-6=2)

"Whew! Somebody needs to layoff the onions for awhile."

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

A few people so far have made a spot of noise...
Listen check 0: the squeezebox stops, 10 seconds after Becton's clunky armor bangs up against something, and Gittik dropped something clanky.

Listen check 10:

Spoiler:
somebody's talking excitedly about something.

Listen check 15:

Spoiler:
A male voice: "Sanbalet! Everybody look fakkin busy! Step loively, me hearties."
Another male voice: "hope he lift thoose gigglers thar in the harnted mansion...Hoy don't highly appreciate them."

Male Human Rogue 14

Beldan looks down at Gittik, then looks up at those following, and shakes his head in despair.

Failed listen check – too noisy.

Male Human Cleric 4

Becton hears the whole conversation very clearly, inspite of his clanking:Listen (1d20+4=24)

Keeping his voice low:
"Sounds like they know we are here. But I don't think they know it's us...I hear a couple of voices talking about keeping busy and such...maybe they think we are someone they are expecting to come down."

"Also...I get the impression that one of them is still above in the mansion somewhere..."

I'll repeat conversation...per spoilers, if it helps clarify things.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Cool beaners! Everybody can read the spoilers.

"Sanbalet" is pronounced "San-buh-lay."

Perception: (1d20=12)

Kruelaid must sleeeep.

Riese is with the sneaky guys....1d20 5=13
*whispering to the group*I got some fire for them if we need it....and some ice....
What are we gonna do, move in and catch 'em unaware? They are part a group that killed that Chosen of Pelor, that means they are of cruel intent and foul hearts in my book.

Male Wild Elf Druid 16 (Shifter version, PHBII)

Won't bother posting my Listen and Silent checks, they were that bad. Not that it matters with everyone else in the group as well! :)

Catching the whiff of fresh air and sea spray on the draft of the open door, Elgan crowds forward, bumping into Becton and causing his armor to rattle against the wall.

"Sorry Chere'," HE mutters as they both find their balance. Then he shifts back into a sleek black panther, and begins to wind his way between the others, careful to keep his tail high and out from under people's feet!

He will stay in cat-form for now, trying to hide in shadows, and hopefully get a surprise attack on the pirates before they see him!

Elgan's Hide check for moving down stairs: (1d20 2=6)

AND he is obviously standing directly under someone's light source! ;P

Male Human Paragon 3 /Evoker 6 (abjuration&enchantment barred) ---37,300XP

Riese gives the ebon fur a fond stroke as the cat-like creature walks by....

"Why you say two times, Iron Rabbit S%!%? One time listen to you bad enough."

"But me want to kill something, show Jane me tough man, and me no kill nothing yet."

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

Alyai hasn't even followed the group down the corridor, as he though that would be reserved for the "sneaky" party members. However, as the party crashes through the passageway like a bull through a china store, he decides that even he can't do any worse than his friends. After cocking his crossbow, he carefully makes his way down the tunnel.

"You know, Gittik, killing isn't what will make the fair Jane admire you - looting is. Take it easy."

"Ah hiner thaur ur bevies doon haur."

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

Altai looks at Stig for a few seconds, before nodding. "Uh-huh", he says, before moving on down the corridor.

Whispering "What's the plan Stigwold"...
